I hung up and stood in the yard for a long time. Under the clear sky, the boundless blue sea stretched to the horizon, the sun so bright, the clouds so gentle…
I had to admit… “THE FEELING OF BEING PROTECTED BY SOMEONE… IS QUITE NICE…” My wolf laughed out.
The drive from the fishing village to MoonCloud Pack took seven hours. That meant I’d arrive around 8 PM. I was in a good mood the whole way. Everything felt so much better. My wolf was full of determination, she was ready to give her life for the Kingston Group, “I’M NOT KIDDING! I AM WILLING TO DIE FOR KINGSTON GROUP”
At 7 PM, I came out of a rest stop bathroom and noticed someone standing by a patch of grass near the parking lot. I had vaguely
seen him before…
At the first rest stop. I had felt something unusual, now I know what it was; the night three days ago, when I bought snacks at a convenience store, this man was in the store!
‘HE’S TRACKING US!” My wolfs tone was sharp with urgency.
My heart suddenly tensed. I put my hands in my trench coat pockets, maintaining composure and getting into the car.
I didn’t drive away immediately. Instead, I locked the car doors, took out my eye mask, put it on, lowered the seat, and pretended to sleep. Under the eye mask, I left a large gap, allowing me to see everything in front of me.
The man was now standing by the roadside smoking. He was in his thirties, of average height, with tanned skin, wearing a T–shirt, jacket, and jeans – utterly unremarkable. He was on the phone, laughing cheerfully, but his gaze would occasionally drift towards
my car.
I remained calm, continuing to lie down. After a moment, the man finished his call and returned to his car. His car was parked diagonally across from mine. He got in, took out a can of drink, and sipped it leisurely. There seemed to be nothing unusual.
Perhaps it was just a coincidence? My wolf immediately retorted, its tone laced with mockery, “LEAVING MOONCLOUD PACK AT THE SAME TIME OF NIGHT THREE DAYS AGO, AND RETURNING AT THE SAME TIME THREE DAYS LATER? HEH, I DIDN’T BELIEVE IN SUCH COINCIDENCES!
After about half an hour, since I didn’t leave, neither did he. It was confirmed.
Who sent this person?
‘COULD IT BE AN ASSASSIN SENT BY THE COOPER FAMILY”
If it was an assassin, why hadn’t they acted in three days?
Countless questions flooded my mind. My wolf and I raced in figuring out the solution. We were unsure what to do.
I considered calling the Pack Enforcer. But it would take time for the Pack Enforcer to arrive. More importantly, with only circumstantial evidence – just being on the saine road, without concrete proof – they could simply plead innocence.
I still had an hour’s drive to MoonCloud Pack. He’d been following me for so many days without acting. Perhaps if I drove normally and pretended not to notice, he wouldn’t act.
Making up my mind, I started the car and drove off. The other car followed slowly, sometimes even disappearing, only to reappear later. If I hadn’t been certain he was following me, I wouldn’t have even noticed the car. This person was professional.
The hour–long drive left my palms sweating. Only when I entered the MoonCloud Pack city limits did I relax slightly. As 1 approached my apartment complex, I suddenly accelerated.
“Damn, that omega noticed!”
The man in the car behind shouted. On the empty road, I disregarded a red light, not slowing down. I drove into the complex, while the other car was blocked outside.
