Klay choked up and said, “I chose to kneel, Ms. Neel. I’m sorry. I misunderstood you. Your kindness, I-”
“Stop.”
Robin raised her hand. “Skip the empty speech. I’m not in the mood to hear it. I only have one question. Do you want to come with me?”
He froze for a second, then nodded like crazy. “Yes! Absolutely!”
He thought he had reached a dead end, but it turned out to be a new start.
Robin asked, “What’s your name?”
He quickly said, “Klay Ellington. My sister is Izzy Ellington!”
“Klay. Izzy.”
Robin repeated the names and nodded.
Xane was leaning back in the SUV like a total boss. He had his feet kicked up on the front seat and was yelling impatiently, “Can you hurry up? Bunch of idiots! Do you know how valuable my time is? Keep dragging this out, and I won’t be nice!”
Martin was already used to this.
Drake tugged his sleeve and whispered, “That act came out of nowhere. If I didn’t react fast, I wouldn’t have known how to play along,
“By the way, are we really just going to kick that kid out?”
Martin smiled. “Relax. Since that girl spoke up, Klay will be fine.”
Drake frowned. “But, you’ve never met her before, right? Why do you trust her so much?
“Even if it’s because of Tim, you’re not the type to trust a total stranger after meeting them just
once.”
For some reason, Robin’s words echoed in Martin’s head again.
“If one day you can’t stay at Redwood Military Base anymore, come find me at Klam Zoo.
“I’ll always be there waiting for you.”

Klam Zoo…
Martin’s lips moved, but no words came out.

He didn’t even know why he trusted Robin. Maybe it was because the moment they met, she trusted him first.
The handgun was hidden close to his body now. The cold metal had warmed up against his skin, and he could feel it there.
“Really?” Martin said with a casual smile. “Maybe it’s just a gut feeling.”
Drake rolled his eyes. “Yeah right, don’t give me that crap.
“Fine. If you don’t want to say it, I won’t ask. As long as that kid and his sister are okay, that’s enough.”
Deep down, they all knew that with a scumbag like Xane around, Redwood Military Base might not be the safe place they hoped for.
But what else could they do?
This sudden disaster had destroyed everyone’s homes. The military base was their last hope.
For now, they could only take it one step at a time.
They spent a while hauling supplies until two huge shelves were completely empty.
Xane was leaning back comfortably when he suddenly waved Martin over. “Didn’t I tell you? Those people are strong. Call them over to protect me, and then we can leave.”
Martin was speechless. “Mr. Clark, they already said no to that. Besides, we can’t leave yet. If you don’t want to walk, then we’ll have to clear all the cars blocking the road first.”
Xane’s eyebrows shot up. “Losers! All of you are useless! I made it so obvious, and they still don’t get it? Did you ask where they’re going?”
“They have their own plans,” Martin said in a low voice.
Xane gritted his teeth. “I don’t care where they’re going! At a time like this, is there any safer place than the military base? I was kind enough to invite them to come with me. Can’t they understand what that means?”
Martin didn’t even feel like responding to something that stupid. He just turned around and led the others to start clearing the cars off the road.
