Cold sweat covered everyone’s foreheads. They’d seen plenty of zombies on the way here. They’d fought them for a whole month. But faced with such a horrifying scene right now, no one could stay calm!

Martin took a deep breath. “Listen up! If we hold the top of the stairs and control how fast they come up, we still have a chance!”

Just as he said that, an agile zombie stepped right on the shoulders and heads of the others and lunged straight for him!

A Level 2 zombie!

Robin’s heart sank. If a Level 2 showed up this early, how many of the hundreds down there were the lowest–level ones, and how many were evolved?!

As the Level 2 zombie lunged at Martin, Ella reacted instantly. She grabbed a table nearby and swung it hard at the zombie!

The table smashed into the zombie and shattered into pieces!

Luckily, the force knocked the zombie back down the stairs.

Martin had just escaped death. He shot Ella a grateful look, but he didn’t relax for a second.

More and more zombies closed in. Everyone gripped their weapons and fought, trying to keep them off the second floor just like Martin said.

But how long could this last?

Slowly, people started running out of energy. Xane stayed in the back, protected by others. He looked around and noticed Izzy still lying unconscious in the corner.

Klay was busy fighting zombies. He had no idea that a monster like Xane would take this chance to go after his sister.

Suddenly, a fresh scent of blood began to cut through the heavy rot of the zombies.

The zombies below grew even more frenzied!

Robin’s heart skipped. She turned and saw Xane struggling to hold Izzy. The girl couldn’t fight back at all. Worse, there was now a deep cut on her wrist!

At the same time, Klay saw it, too.

Klay roared, pushing his speed to the limit as he charged over like he’d lost his mind.

The zombies on the first floor caught the scent of fresh blood. They reached up with their gray, rotting arms, their pale eyes full of hunger.

Food. They smelled food!!

In that exact moment, Xane let go.

As the weak body fell from the second floor, Klay’s mind went blank. Blood tears filled his eyes as he screamed, “Xane! You’re dead today!!!”

Suddenly, a wave of intense heat exploded. Everyone felt the temperature skyrocket. Out of the corner of their eyes, bright orange flames lit up everything red!

The chaos grabbed everyone’s attention. Just as they turned their heads, they saw a shadow blur past them like a storm. It was so fast it left an afterimage.

She stepped on the glass railing and dove straight down!
