“Help! What’s going on out there? My dad went out for his morning run. When he came back, he attacked my mom and bit her to death! And now she’s back on her feet! I’m hiding in my bedroom, and they’re both pounding on the door!”
“Security! Where are the security guards? Get up here and check this out! I’ve paid maintenance fees for years! What have they even been doing?”
“What the heck is this? Some kind of sick prank? This isn’t funny at all! I’m calling 911!”
“They’re zombies! Real zombies! The outbreak has started! The apocalypse is coming!”
When Robin turned on the TV, almost every channel was reporting the same chaos that had erupted earlier that morning.
“Emergency broadcast, emergency broadcast. At 9:00 a.m., large–scale attacks involving people biting others began appearing across the country. The exact cause is still unknown. Everyone is advised to stay indoors, lock all doors and windows, and avoid going outside unless absolutely necessary.”
The news anchor spoke to the camera with a serious face. But suddenly a scream erupted from somewhere off camera. In the middle of the chaos, a figure rushed forward like a storm. Before the anchor could even react, the attacker slammed into him and knocked him to the floor.
The camera shook violently. In the blurry footage, the attacker opened his blood–smeared mouth and bit down hard on the anchor’s neck.
Bright red blood splattered across the studio. The anchor’s eyes flew wide open in terror. A choking sound rattled in his throat as his arms and legs twitched wildly. Then he went still.
The attacker slowly lifted his head. Half of his face had already been eaten away.
One eyeball was crushed inside its socket. The other hung loosely, held by a few thin nerves. Bare white bone showed through the torn flesh, smeared with dark blood. Thick blood and slime dripped from his mouth and splattered onto the floor.
Beep!
Suddenly, the signal cut out. The screen went black.
But everyone watching had already been frozen in shock.
Robin stayed quiet and changed channels again and again. Every program had been interrupted. All that remained were emergency apocalypse warnings. From the view of news drones, the city had fallen apart in just one morning. The streets were filled with wreckage.

Rotting pieces of flesh and dark blood were scattered across the ground. Screams and cries echoed everywhere. Car horns blared nonstop, but traffic had completely collapsed.
People were being tackled by zombies and torn apart. Moments later, those same victims staggered back to their feet with broken bodies, joining the growing army of the undead.
In one video, a middle–aged man scrambled onto his apartment balcony. His wife and child had already turned into zombies. Their faces pressed against the glass door as they scratched at it with black fingernails, trying to break through and tear him apart.
The man stared at them in horror. These had once been the two people he loved most in the world. Now they were something else entirely. Dark red blood smeared across the glass door as they clawed at it again and again. At last, the man’s mind broke. From the 13th floor, he jumped.
White brain matter and bright red blood spread across the ground below. Within seconds, a swarm of zombies rushed toward the body.
Scenes like this were happening everywhere.
Robin finished the last spoonful of yogurt.
Her expression darkened as she stared at the silent TV screen.
This was the apocalypse. A world filled with darkness and despair. Bloody. Cruel. Merciless.
Robin let out a long breath. Then she stood up and tossed the empty yogurt cup into the trash.
No matter what chaos was happening outside, it had nothing to do with her.
In this kind of world–where people could destroy each other without mercy–the only thing that mattered was surviving well on your own.
Suddenly, her phone started ringing. The sound cut sharply through the quiet room.
Robin raised an eyebrow and picked it up. She glanced at the screen. As expected, it was Zelda.
“Robin!”
Screams and chaos could be heard on the other end of the call. Zelda’s voice sounded almost hysterical. “You liar! You’re not at the hospital! You were never at the hospital!”
“Yeah,” Robin admitted with a small laugh. “Good thing I didn’t go. I saw the news online. Pretty scary stuff.”
Zelda went silent for two seconds. Robin’s calm tone seemed to shock her.
