Chapter 217 A Flame Without Heat
Ivan didn’t have Robin’s abilities. He couldn’t jump down a 16–foot wall on his own. He had to slide down the rope.
And Robin, exactly as she’d warned him had no intention of waiting.
By the time he’d gotten all the way down, Robin and Dylan were already a fair distance ahead.
Somehow, that didn’t make him angry. A small smile actually surfaced on his face.
Ivan was a sharp–eyed man. From the way Robin had moved in the fight, he’d already seen it–these two were serious.
If Robin had genuinely not wanted to wait for him, the time it took him to slide down the rope would have been more than enough for her and Dylan to vanish completely.
But they hadn’t.
They had kept moving, but only just far enough ahead for him to catch up.
Ivan pressed his lips together and forced his battered body to keep moving.
Centerville looked exactly the way he’d imagined it. Clean. Quiet.
Moonlight spilled across the streets. Everyone was fast asleep. It was a scene of peace he hadn’t experienced in months.
The patrollers might have been lazy, but at least the kind of street violence common in Outerville didn’t happen here. The bare minimum of safety was guaranteed.
Walking through streets like these, something quietly surged in his chest.
He had no idea whether following Robin was the right choice. But his situation was already as bad as it could get. How much worse could it actually be?
Ivan had made his decision. Whoever this woman was, he was going to hold on with everything he had.
The three of them climbed up through the outside drainpipe and back through the window. Ella had been waiting. The moment she saw them return, she shot up from the bed.
“Robin, you’re back–wait, who?”
Her wary gaze landed on Ivan. “Who is this?”
“Picked him up in Outerville.”
Robin didn’t bother explaining further. Her eyes dropped to the shattered door. Her brow drew together. “What happened here?”
Ella quickly laid out everything—the gas. Lyle, the attackers, all of it. “The three of them are still tied up in Dylan’s room. We were waiting for you to come back and handle it.”
“Where are Martin and Drake?”
“In their own room.”
Robin nodded. “So, Lyle isn’t content to stay in his lane either. I don’t have much respect for Serena, but for someone this stupid to be eyeing her position–that’s almost funny.”
She let out a cold sound. “It’s already late. With the door like that, none of us is sleeping tonight anyway. Have you been practicing the training method I gave you?”
Ella nodded eagerly. “The progress is slow, but it really works, Robin, I actually feel stronger already.”
