Chapter 218 Miracle
Ivan lowered his head and gave a bitter smile. “I’m an ability user, but my ability has no power at all. So what’s the difference between having it and not having it?
“That’s why Chase and the others see me as an outcast. The lowest of the low among ability users.
“Today they tried to take my last half of a bun. I know they’re not starving–they just think it’s fun to take my food. But I haven’t eaten in three days. If I didn’t eat today, I really would’ve died, so I fought back. “Maybe that made them feel insulted. If I hadn’t run into you, I’d probably be dead by now.”
By the end, Ivan’s voice trembled. It almost broke, but he forced it down.
He couldn’t cry.
Crying meant weakness. Especially in front of someone strong like her. Tears wouldn’t earn sympathy- they’d only make him look like a burden.
Truth was, he had used a small trick to get Robin to bring him back with her.
She was his last hope. He couldn’t afford to be abandoned.
“Looks like I was set up by you today.”
Robin spoke slowly, her tone unreadable.
Ivan’s heart tightened. He gritted his teeth and admitted it outright, “Yeah. I did scheme a little. But I had no choice.
“If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t even be alive right now. My life belongs to you now. If you don’t want me, then just kill me!”
“What?”
Robin raised a brow. “You’re not going to beg me to spare you?”
Ivan shut his eyes and said firmly, “Back in Outerville, you said Chase and the others had seen your face, so they had to die.
“I’ve seen your face too. And I followed you all the way here to Centerville. You must be an important person, and what you’re doing has to stay secret. If you let me go, there’s no guarantee I won’t leak something.
“I can’t let myself become a risk to you!”
Dylan couldn’t help but curl his lips into a faint smile. The kid was smart.
Ella pouted a little. “Wow, you really know how to talk.”
Robin laughed. “All right, why so serious? I’ve never seen your ability, but I believe one thing.”
Ivan looked up without thinking. “What is it?”
