End Times, Surviving with My Beastly Army
Chapter 24 The Bold Guess
Compared to the bowl of food in front of them, the bag of crunchy ramen snacks looked sad and cheap.
He swallowed hard and asked again to be sure. “Ella, you’re not lying to us, right? You already ate?”
Ella pushed the bowl straight into his hands. “I ate before I came out. This is just… what was left.”
She looked a little embarrassed as she spoke. “But trust me, that lady inside really isn’t bad. She didn’t do anything strange to me. As soon as I went in, she invited me to eat a hearty meal. She said I should help with some chores later, but honestly, I haven’t even started yet.”
Tim and Dane looked at each other again.
Had they judged the situation wrong?
Was the woman inside actually a good person?
Still unsure about the situation, Ella shoved the bowl firmly into Tim’s hands. Her tone was unusually bossy. “Stop overthinking it. Just eat. I promised Princess Ruby I’d help give her a bath, so I can’t stay out here too long.”
The food was right under their noses now. The smell was even stronger.
Tim and Dane were almost hypnotized by it. Their eyes stayed glued to the pot, though one of them still managed to ask, “Princess Ruby? Who’s that?”
Ella answered calmly, “A huge pig.”
“Oh, a pig–WHAT?!”
Dane nodded without thinking at first. Then his brain finally caught up. He tore his eyes away from the food and stared at her with a dramatic look. “A pig?!”
Ella crossed her arms and stayed perfectly calm. “Yeah. Just a pig. What’s so surprising about that? A goose can unlock doors with an eye scan, remember?”
Holy!
For some reason, Tim and Dane’s shocked expressions gave her a strange sense of satisfaction.
Ella quickly hid the smile tugging at her lips and urged them again. “Anyway, you two eat first. I can’t stay here for long. I’m heading back now.”

After checking again and again to make sure she wouldn’t be mistreated inside, Tim finally let her go.
Ella felt light as she walked back.
The apocalypse had started several days ago, and this was the first time she had truly relaxed.
She hummed a little tune as she stepped through the front door of the villa. But when she casually looked up, her whole body froze.
Robin, who was supposed to be upstairs, was now sitting on the sofa on the first floor. A faint smile rested on her lips.
“I…”
It felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over her. Ella’s whole body went stiff. Even her fingertips felt cold.
The woman in front of her hadn’t said a single word.
But her eyes felt like they could see straight into Ella’s heart, leaving her nowhere to hide.
“I said you could go check on your friends,” Robin said slowly. “But I never said you could take my food with you.”
Her cool gaze rested on the helpless girl. “ELLA CHAPMAN.”
Robin spoke her name clearly, one word at a time. “You’ve got quite a bit of nerve.”
“I didn’t-”
Ella started to deny it right away. But the words stopped halfway out of her mouth. A sudden thought flashed through her mind. She looked into Robin’s eyes.
Then she changed her words.

“I’m sorry. This was my fault. I took your food without asking. Taking something that isn’t is stealing. I did something wrong, and I’m willing to accept whatever punishment you decide.”
Robin raised one eyebrow. “That’s it?” she asked lazily.
Ella nodded seriously. “I forgot my place. At the beginning, I said I would be your servant. That means no matter what I do, I should report it to you first.” She paused, then continued honestly. “Even though I could tell you’re tough on the outside but kind on the inside, I still shouldn’t have acted on my own and secretly taken the leftover food to give to my friends.”
