Chapter 253 A Leader’s Doubt

“In a way, he’s not wrong. Domingo said slowly. “But that was never why I built this base in the first place.
“People aren’t meant to live alone We need each other. I just wanted everyofre to have a place to stay in this messed–up world. A place where we could support each other and keep going.
“If we follow his way, then what was the point of building this place at all?”
It went completely against everything he had believed in.
Dylan spoke in a calm voice. “He does have a point. The world has always been about survival of the fittest. Whether you live or die depends on your own strength.”
“I know!” Domingo cut him off a little too fast. “I know my ideas might sound naive to you. Maybe even unrealistic. But hasn’t everyone been weak at some point?
“We’re all just trying to survive. We’re not at the end of the road yet. If we still have a chance, why not fight for it? Why choose something so cold?”
What bothered him most was this–David had once been weak too.
Now that he had powers, the first thing he thought of was turning on people weaker than him.
Domingo was getting more and more agitated; Dylan didn’t say anything else.
Vivian tilted her head. “Then you’re kind of strange. If you’re the commander, shouldn’t everyone listen to you? If he won’t, just kill him.”
Her face looked soft and harmless, but she said it like it was nothing.
That was what unsettled Domingo the most.
She didn’t sound like she was talking about killing someone. It felt as normal as talking about eating or drinking.
The contrast made his skin crawl.

“We want to!” one of the men said angrily. “You think we don’t? But he’s been here a long time. I don’t know what tricks he used, but a lot of the people with abilities support him now. And they’re some of the strongest ones we have!”
Their base had a little over 50 people.
Only about 20 of them had abilities, and their strength varied a lot.
Out of the thirty–something people here, more than half were on Domingo’s side. The rest had all gone over to David.
Even though they had more people, both sides were about equal in strength.
“I get why they think that way,” Domingo said, scratching his head. A bitter smile crossed his face. “They’re

strong. Of course they want a better place. That’s only natural.”

Dane let out a cold laugh If they want something better, they can go to another base. Why stay here and take away what little the regular people have?
“It’s because deep down, they know this is as far as they can go. Outside, they’re nothing special. So they stay here, grab more privileges, and make themselves feel important.”
Domingo stared at him for a moment, then nodded hard. “That… that actually makes sense!”
It felt like something had finally clicked in his head.
Robin watched his sudden realization and couldn’t help but smile a little.
After spending some time with him, she understood.
Domingo looked rough on the outside, but he was actually very thoughtful.
Maybe too thoughtful.
That made him worry too much and sometimes lose his judgment.
David had been right about one thing. Domingo wasn’t suited to lead. He was better as someone supporting a leader.
“My child! My baby! What are you doing? Let go of my child!”
A sharp, desperate cry suddenly rang out ahead, mixed with a child’s weak wailing.
Domingo’s face changed at once. He ran forward.
“Get lost, you crazy bitch!” a man shouted. “I didn’t kick you out, so be grateful! And now you want to raise something useless like that in our base? You’re just wasting food!”
