Chapter 272 When Gratitude Turns to Desire

“Greedy? How am I greedy?” David frowned and shot back, “Isn’t this a fair request?
“She said it herself. She’s part of our base now. If she’s one of us, and she has something that good, why didn’t she share it earlier? Or were those words just empty talk? Maybe she has her agenda.”
The others looked at each other, unsure what to say.
Robin and her team had just saved their lives. Of course they were grateful.
But what David said didn’t sound entirely wrong either.
If they were all on the same side, helping each other seemed reasonable, right?
After the zombie wave, David had already lost everyone’s respect.
But now, his words touched on something important-everyone’s benefit. So no one stepped in to stop him.
Because… what if?
The worst side of human nature showed itself clearly.
Isaac looked at their faces and knew exactly what they were thinking.
“Have some decency!” he snapped. “We just barely escaped death. If you have any sense of right and wrong, you shouldn’t be eyeing Ms. Neel’s things!”
“But I think David has a point,” someone muttered carefully. “If we had that kind of potion, all of us could get a lot stronger. Next time something like this happens, they wouldn’t have to struggle so much. We just want to help share the burden.”
“Yeah, exactly!” the person next to him nodded quickly. “We mean well.”
Domingo’s face turned red with anger.
He realized how shameless some people in the base were, and there were quite a few of them. When he caught Robin’s amused glance, he felt even more ashamed of himself.
He stepped forward suddenly, his voice cold.
“If I remember right, before the zombie wave, you chose to follow David.”

The two men froze. They hadn’t expected him to bring that up now.
“I… we…”
Domingo waved his hand. “I respect your choice. But from this moment on, anyone who planned to leave with David is no longer a member of this base.”
Before, those people would have left without a second thought.

But now? After going through such a brutal fight and witnessing Robin’s strength, there was no way they wanted to leave.
They didn’t like that at all.
“Commander, we just went through a brutal fight. We barely made it out alive, and now you want to kick us out?”
“Yeah! Everyone makes mistakes, right? We were misled by David before. We know we were wrong now. We helped defend the base too. You can’t throw us out like this!”
“F-fine, we don’t want that magic potion anymore, okay? We’ve been together for so long. Is it really worth kicking us out over something this small?”
“Exactly! And we’re all badly hurt. Throwing us out now is just too much!”
They all started talking at once.
The message was clear. They didn’t want to leave. Not under any circumstances.
David watched the scene play out. He already understood. His plan had completely failed.
He steadied himself, forced a smile, and stepped forward.
“Ms. Neel, I’m sorry. I spoke out of line earlier. I was too anxious.”
Robin raised an eyebrow.
Ella, on the other hand, stared at him with full suspicion, clearly waiting to hear what nonsense he was about to say.
“I just wanted everyone to get stronger,” David continued smoothly. “I didn’t realize my approach was wrong. That’s what caused this misunderstanding.
“Ms. Neel, you’re right. Compared to you, I’m nothing. So I’ve decided to stay here and learn from you.”
He said it without even blinking. Robin and the others frowned as they listened.
