Getting chewed out by Rolf was the least of his worries.
If Robin ever decided to settle the score with him, his survival odds against frer were precisely zero.
On the other side of it all, Vivian had already made friends with the super–giant spider in the most spectacular fashion.

The two of them were nestled together like old companions, and Vivian had even climbed up onto the spider’s back, her bright, bubbling laughter carrying through the night air.
“Is she for real? Figures she’d fit right in with Robin. That kid is unhinged!” Jack muttered, a look of vague, unreadable emotion crossing his face as he watched.
Beside him, a woman spoke up in a measured, careful tone. “I haven’t seen a mutant specimen like this since the apocalypse began. And that girl’s ability lets her communicate with mutant species. If she and this giant spider could be brought back to our base as research subjects, the breakthroughs we’d make could be enormous.
“Especially if that ability could be replicated on a large scale, or if this spider’s genetic material could be extracted and weaponized for our use. Our base could field an entire army like this someday. We’d be completely unstoppable!”
At those words, a sharp gleam lit up Jack’s eyes.
If that hypothesis ever became reality…
It wouldn’t stop at an army of mutant giant spiders. There’d be mutant dogs, mutant cats, mutant tigers…
He didn’t even let his mind finish the thought. The sheer scale of what Vernon Base could become was staggering.
Jack’s heart hammered with barely contained excitement.
If he’d known from the start that the little girl traveling with Robin had an ability this extraordinary, he never would’ve let things sour between them the way he had.
But it wasn’t too late.
Jack reined himself in and steadied his composure. There was still time to fix it.
Out of every base gathered here, Vernon Base was the strongest, second only to the Redwood Military Base.
He thought if they extended an olive branch to Robin and put the past behind them, she’d have to be reasonable enough to accept it.
The more he turned it over, the more workable it seemed.
They couldn’t stand her, obviously. But if she was willing to contribute to the base, they could find it in themselves to tolerate her well enough.

Chapter 340 Different Bases

“I’ll deal with it tomorrow,” Jack said, his voice cool and detached.
His mind was made up, but walking over to Robin right now was out of the question.
It would cost him too much street ered.
That night passed without further incident.
The next morning, even after the brutal battle the night before had left everyone bone–tired and hollowed out, the moment the first pale light broke across the horizon, people started stirring and waking one by
one.
Sleep in?
Not here. Not now.
Every single day in this world was shadowed by the kind of dread that never fully let go, and if sleep weren’t a biological necessity, most of them would’ve cut it out entirely.
“Everyone’s up, I see.” Dubois Jackelson swept his gaze across the group and ventured, with a careful, probing lilt, “So since we’re all awake, perhaps we should take a look at what’s actually inside that granary.
“It was so dark last night, and the situation was… well, you all know how it was. We didn’t really get a chance to assess things properly…”
The moment those words landed, every pair of eyes in the group drifted, almost involuntarily, toward Robin.
The sheer, staggering power she’d displayed the night before had left a mark on everyone’s mind that wasn’t going anywhere. Since the apocalypse broke, she was the most formidable person any of them had ever encountered, bar none.
This world was real and brutal, and real power earned real reverence whether people meant to give it or not. Most of them hadn’t even registered the shift consciously, but their bodies had already told the truth. Something deep in each of them had already yielded.
“Why is everyone staring at me?”
Robin brushed herself off and pushed herself up from the ground. “The base leaders can make this call.”
“Well, I mean…” Kevin glanced around at the others with a placating smile.
“Ms. Neel, that’s all well and good, but you know how it is. Strength is what earns the right to speak, and on top of that…”
They’d escaped last night, sure. But walking back in today meant facing those giant spiders all over again.
Right now, there were exactly two people who could hold their own against those things. One was Robin.
The other was Vivian, who answered to Robin.
And Vivian was currently draped across the back of that colossal mutant spider, which none of them had
