End Times, Surviving with My Beastly Army novel Chapter 341

Chapter 341 Move In

Finished

And if anything remained, it was only because the darkness and chaos of the night before had left parts of the granary unaccounted for

Consider it a gift, Robin thought, feeling rather generous about the whole thing.

Whether it was the daylight or the simple comfort of having Robin at the front, the group carried themselves with noticeably more steadiness as they headed back in

The granary door swung open with slow, cautious care.

A wave of blood and the distinctive, stale scent of stored grain hit them all at once. The floor was a scene of complete ruin, streaked with blood that hadn’t fully dried, and the bodies of giant spiders lay heaped across every inch of it, already stiff and cold.

But there were no human bodies.

Everyone understood what that meant.

Hands trembling, they looked up, and sure enough, the ceiling held even more human cocoons than before. Some were still full and taut. Others had already collapsed into dry, hollow husks.

Everyone knew how spiders fed. They wrapped their prey in webbing, injected a paralytic and digestive fluid unique to their kind, and waited until the body liquefied before drinking it clean.

No one had given it much thought before. But now that the prey was human, and those cocoons were right above their heads, every person in that granary felt their skin crawl with a deep, involuntary revulsion.

And then something came along that made their skin crawl even worse.

The good news was that the giant mutant spiders had claimed this granary so thoroughly that no other species had dared move in, and every scrap of food inside had been preserved in good condition.

The bad news was that the largest granary of them all had almost nothing left in it.

Who did this? Who was it?Jack’s fury erupted in a roar that shook the air around hinf.

They’d fought through everything to reach this place. They’d found one granary where the food had actually survived intact, and now the inside was practically stripped bare.

And this was the biggest granary of the lot.

Someone had beaten them to it and taken what should have been theirs. He wanted a name.

Jack wasn’t the only one seething. Every other face in the room had gone rigid and dark.

Whatever was left here, it wasn’t even enough to divide.

Robin, Sharon, and Dylan exchanged a single glance.

Chapter 344 Move In

Finished

All three of them found something very interesting to study in the middle distance, then each looked away from the others in a perfectly synchronized, unspoken understanding.

Who’d beaten them to it?

We have no idea at all!

Jack reined himself in with visible effort and let a cold, dangerous edge settle into his voice. Ladies and gentlemen, let me make it clear before we go any further. Vernon Base’s strength speaks for itself, and we lost a number of our own people fighting to secure this place.

He didn’t even need to finish the sentence. Everyone else understood exactly where it was heading.

A low wave of discontent rippled through the group. Every base here lost people! Last night was brutal for all of us, and we paid for it just as much as anyone

Jack turned his head and fixed his gaze on the person who’d spoken. Are your people really in the same league as ours?

That landed like a slap.

The man’s expression darkened, and his temper surged hot enough to push words to his lips, but the person beside him grabbed his arm. Are you losing your mind? Don’t pick a fight with them right now!

Don’t forget, their base is stronger than ours. We’re going into a losing fight even if we try!

The man’s chest heaved with every breath, but he couldn’t deny it. His companion was right.

He swallowed it down. He had no other choice.

Seeing the man stand down so sensibly, a smug, satisfied smile pulled at the corner of Jack’s mouth. I don’t care what’s left in the other granary. Starting now, everything in this one gets distributed by me!

We have six bases total here, correct?

His gaze swept the room. Vernon Base takes 60 percent.

The remaining 40 is yours to split among yourselves.
