Chapter 360 Willow Claps Back

“I just realized I dont even know your names yet.” Willow smiled at the group. “I’m Willow Newton, and this is my little brother, Thoobold. We’re both Ravenholt locals.”
Robin gave a small nod. “Robin Neel.”
“Ella Chapman.”
“Dylan Water.”
“Henry Wood.”
One by one, the others at the table offered their names.
Willow’s face lit up. “You all have such nice names! So now that we know each other’s names, that means we’re officially acquainted, right?”
Everyone glanced toward Robin. She gave a silent nod.
She could sense that this girl had approached them with some kind of agenda.
But there wasn’t a trace of malice on her, nothing that set off any alarms. And if there was no malice, Robin was content to play along and pretend she hadn’t noticed a thing.
“You guys barely got any food,” Willow said, already moving to help. “Let us go grab some more for you!”
Before Robin could respond, a voice cut through the noise behind them. Not quite loud, not quite quiet. A deliberate, sneering little scoff. “Would you look at that? The freak–show siblings can’t get anyone in the base to give them the time of day, so now they’re latching onto the newcomers.”
“Ha! I heard those people are all seriously strong. Way out of their league. Like they could ever suck up to fighters like that.”
“Exactly. She should take a good look at what she actually is. Those people are being polite now, smiling and making conversation, but the second they find out about her brother? They’ll run the other way.”
“Did I just hear her offer to have that freak fetch food for them? God, I’m gonna be sick. She knows what her brother’s deal is. Doesn’t she care about grossing people out?”
The voices weren’t loud, but they weren’t trying to be subtle either. Every word landed squarely in the ears of both siblings.
Theobold pressed his lips together. His eyes, helpless and wide, drifted to Willow.
Willow’s face had gone a shade paler, but she moved fast. She pulled Theobold behind her, planted one hand on her hip, and jabbed a finger at the group. “You. You. And you! What the hell did you just say? Talking trash behind people’s backs like that, you’re not worried your tongues’ll rot out of your heads?”
The scolding caught them off guard. Their expressions soured, but they recovered with a dismissive curl of the lip. “We’re just stating facts. What, we’re not allowed to say what’s true now?

“Yeah. You know exactly what your brother is. If you ask me, freaks like you two should’ve been kicked out of this base a long time ago, before you become a real problem.”
Willow was shaking with anger. “This base belongs to Rolf. Rolf hasn’t said a single word about it, and here you all are running your mouths. Since when do any of you get to speak for him? Sounds to me like you’re the ones stirring up trouble.”
That set them off. Several voices overlapped at once. “Hey, hey, don’t go putting words in our mouths!”
“Yeah, you can eat whatever you want, but you better watch what you say. Keep talking like that and see what happens.”
Willow didn’t flinch. She let out a cold, sharp laugh. “Oh, so you do know the rule about watching what you say? Funny. I figured your mom never taught you that one.” She paused, then tilted her head. “Oh wait. Silly me. She’s probably been dead since the apocalypse.”
Robin couldn’t help it. A laugh burst out of her before she could stop it. The others weren’t much better. Scattered snorts and choked–back sounds rippled around the table.
“You little…”
One of them surged forward, fists half–clenched, face twisted with rage. Willow stood her ground. She didn’t step back, didn’t dodge. Just stared them down, ice cold.
She knew exactly how this would play out. Today, of all days, none of them would actually start something. This was the day Rolf and his people had returned victorious. Anyone dumb enough to pick a fight right now was basically signing their own death warrant.
She watched as the man’s companions grabbed his arms and hauled him back. He left fuming, throwing one last poisonous look over his shoulder. Willow let out a quiet, contemptuous huff, then turned to her brother and lowered her voice. “It’s okay. Don’t listen to anything they said. You’re fine.”
