At first, those five or six people felt a little regret when they heard her earlier words. But when they heard the rest, their spirits shot up.
If they followed her, their lives could be better

turned to Dylan and spoke.
“Are you sure you don’t want to come with me?”
Dylan gave a small smile. “What would I gain from that? Living conditions don’t matter to me. They don’t tempt me at all.”
“I know,” Robin said.
She stepped closer and lowered her voice. “I also know zombies aren’t a problem for you.”
Dylan’s pupils shrank.

For the first time, a hint of shock showed in his usually calm eyes. Then, a sharp killing intent flashed through them.
But it disappeared just as fast.
He looked at her cal

Robin shook her head lazily. “Oh, you know exactly what I mean. I also know that every two weeks, you suddenly pass out for about twenty minutes. Zombies may not be a threat to you, but someone as smart as you should understand-” She paused. “The scariest thing in this world isn’t zombies. It’s people.
“Can you really be sure that the next time you pass out, you’ll wake up again?”

Of course, she knew he didn’t agree because she promised to help him.
He agreed because she knew his secret, and that caught his interest.
But that was fine.
Dylan was smart. And smart people always followed what benefited them most.
“We talked it over,” the five or six people said as they finally stepped forward. Their voices still held a bit of doubt, but they continued, “We’ve decided to follow you. You said there’s one last test. Can you tell us now?”
“Of course,” Robin replied with a nod. “Dane, Ella–go upstairs and bring down twelve zombies.”
What?!
Everyone froze in shock.
Dane froze for a second. “Robin, what are you doing?”
“If you want to follow me,” Robin said calmly, “you must be willing to fight zombies. The final test is simple -each of you kills two zombies with your own.”
“What? Has she lost her mind?!”
“Everyone has to kill two zombies? That’s impossible!”
“If y
you get scratched or bitten, you could get infected!”
“This test is insane. You should forget it. Let’s go to the military base instead. It’s run by the government;

As soon as she finished speaking, one man stepped forward. His voice was firm. “No need to think. I accept your test.”
“I… I’ll accept it too,” another said, a little nervous but determined. “The four of you cleared out that entire store. That means you’re not normal. Following you has to be better than going to some unknown base.”
