Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 459

"Theodore!" Emma called after him.

He stopped and turned back, a flicker of surprise in his eyes as he waited for her to continue.

"Why did you open The Cookie House here?"

Theodore sighed softly. "It was an inheritance from the father I'd rather not claim. It used to be a liquor store. I don't have the money to buy a new place right now. If this is also causing you trouble, I can..."

"Never mind," she cut him off. They were living separate lives; she had no right to be that demanding.

She turned and walked into the wellness center, hearing Anna's voice behind her.

"What was that about?"

"Nothing. Let's go. What do you want for dinner?"

"Let's make pasta."

"Meat sauce or seafood?"

"Either is fine."

Was this really Theodore, seriously discussing such mundane, domestic details with a woman? He truly had changed.

As Theodore prepared to head back to his shop, he glanced back one last time, watching her straight-backed figure disappear into the building. She walked with a steady, even gait, with no trace of her old limp.

After Emma's session, Sebastian still hadn't shown up. There was no rehearsal scheduled, but she needed to discuss her notes from the previous night with the cast, something she had announced in their group chat.

When she arrived at the studio, however, and everyone else had gathered, the male lead was still missing.

Emma remembered the question she hadn't wanted to answer. It was time to have a serious talk. "Sebastian," she began, choosing her words carefully, "does it bother you that I was once married to Theodore?"

"No!" he denied instantly.

"I was married to him," Emma said, her tone firm. "That's a fact that can't be changed. If it bothers you, then we need to seriously reconsider our relationship."

"No!" Sebastian said, his voice rising in panic. "I don't care! I'm just worried that you love him more than you love me."

"So you disappeared for a day to test me?"

He deflated. "I wanted to see if you cared... But you didn't even think of me until it was time for rehearsal. I was waiting just outside the whole time, hoping you'd remember your lead dancer."

Emma sighed. "Sebastian, I thought you got it. After everything, Theodore and I are finished. He means nothing to me. This is the last time I'm saying this."
