Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 550

Emma wasn't sure if Sebastian was directly involved in Isla's scheme, but she knew one thing for certain: the choreography for the Phoenix dance could only have been leaked by him. She waited to hear what he had to say.

“Emma, I saw everything,” he began.

“I’m sure you did,” she replied, her tone flat.

He paused for a moment before continuing. “This whole thing… it’s my fault. I should have kept a closer eye on Isla.”

Emma listened, a sense of bitter irony washing over her. It seemed she had a type: men who apologized to her on behalf of other women.

“Emma,” he said, his voice slow and deliberate, as if carefully weighing his words. “It would be very simple to turn public opinion around.”

“Oh? And how simple would that be?” she asked. His tone immediately set her on edge.

“I’m in London right now. Can we meet? We should discuss this in person.”

“No. Whatever you have to say, you can say it over the phone.” Now that they were broken up, she had no intention of ever seeing him again.

“You won’t even meet me once?”

The line was painfully familiar. Someone else had said the exact same thing to her before. Was there a standard script for ex-boyfriends?

“Sebastian,” Emma said firmly, “there is no need for us to meet.”

“But if this smear campaign continues, it’s going to destroy you. I’m worried. Look, I flew all the way to London just to help you.”

“That won't be necessary, but thank you,” she said, ready to end the call.
