Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 556

Arthur and Sebastian were both caught off guard.

They hadn't expected Isla to say something so brazen.

Treating it like a trump card, Isla grabbed her father’s arm. "Dad, let's just buy her off. Whatever she wants, we’ll pay it."

Robert actually looked like he was considering it.

For once, Arthur didn't blindly agree with them. "Are you entirely sure she’d even take your money?"

Isla tipped her chin up, a proud smirk on her lips. "She's just a broke international student. Don't talk to me about her having a backbone. People only have a backbone when the check isn't big enough."

"At this point, it might be our only way out," Robert sighed. "Even if she fleeces us, we'll have to take the hit."

Sebastian just sat there, laughing softly to himself.

"What’s so funny?" Isla snapped, clearly offended by his attitude.

"I'm laughing at you." Sebastian’s amusement deepened. "You can’t afford her price."

Isla scoffed. "It's just money. There isn't a number we can't match. If a problem can be solved with cash, it’s not a real problem."

Sebastian felt a wave of irony. Even after the massive scandal in Cresthaven two years ago, the upper crust of the city still hadn't learned their lesson. But he didn't bother spelling it out for her.

For some reason, Arthur fell silent, harboring a morbid curiosity to see Robert hit a brick wall.

Desperate to prove Sebastian wrong, Isla used the Remingtons' connections to pull up Emma's number. Since she used to be a member of Emma’s dance company, tracking it down wasn't hard. Without a second thought about the time difference, she dialed.

"How much do you want?" Isla demanded the second the line connected.

Emma had been fast asleep. Jarred awake, she frowned at the aggressive provocation. "Money?" It had never crossed her mind that someone would try to buy her silence.
