AMELIA’S POV

“I had hoped we would have some more time, but it seems Jasper and Camille couldn’t wait to put an end to us.71 said and rubbed at the chill I felt on my upper arm.

The warriors in training had noticed the change in the sky and had paused in their archery to study the skies.

“You really think this means they’ve gone to the king?” Ryder asked, looking up at the sky with some concern. I nodded when he looked back at me.

“I would not have been sure if I hadn’t read those books of history. I read in one chapter about the signs of the king’s coming wrath. These dark clouds were one of them.”

I looked up again and shook my head, “Plus, I can’t smell it, the rain. I’ve always been able to catch even the faintest whiff of a storm coming. Not this time.”

Ryder nodded slowly,

“I believe you.” He said and turned to the warriors, “They’ve trained well. I would have wished for more time, but it seems like we will have to make do with what we already have.”

“Yeah.” I whispered and hoped that what we were as a whole, was enough.

“Seems like it’s about to pour down cats and dogs.” Lucas called out as he jogged toward us.

“This isn’t a storm, Lucas. Ryder said, urgency in his tone. “Something is coming, Jasper and Camille have been able to rile up the king against us. His coming.”

“Oh boy.” Lucas said, running a hand over his hair and looking deeply troubled. “We have to tell everyone to prepare for battle. Right now, they think it’s just a storm.”

“Go ahead and let them know. Gather men to secure the front line. It would hold off the enemy troops permanently, but it sure as hell gives us a great head start.”

Ryder had already switched into full Alpha mode.

“yes, of course, Alpha. Beta Lucas bowed his head slightly, before jogging off to speak to the other men. I saw the confusion in some of their faces as Lucas relayed the messages. Then the confusion cleared from some of their faces and they seemed somewhat resolute.

“Come on.” Ryder said, reaching for my hand. “Let’s go.”

“Where to?”

“We need to tell my parents and the others. Plus, we need to get Noah. We can’t let him out of our sight.”

Noah’s name was like a douse of cold water over my head and I quickly nodded.

“Yes, Noah, of course!” I muttered and jogged back to the house with him.

“Noah! Noah!” I shouted like a banshee as I rushed into the room.

He stood by the window, watching the unfolding chaos out the window.

Chapter 101

He was just a baby, but the grim expression on his face was much too mature and it made my heart ache.

“Hey I rushed toward him, crouched and wrapped my arms around him. “Are you scared?”

“No.” He whispered and his voice didn’t tremble, “Are you?”

Yes. I thought without hesitation. I was very scared of something bad happening to him or Ryder. But I didn’t say any of that.

“No… I’m not.” I whispered and held him closer. “But we have to prepare.”

When I pulled away, I looked into his eyes, and they were so very calm. It was either that he didn’t understand the crazines of what was coming, or he was simply unfazed by it.

Those bad people are coming now, aren’t they?”

I nodded slowly, “Yes my baby, they are coming. But don’t you worry, because your father, grandparents and I aren’t going to let anyone hurt you.”

He smiled softly and reached out to cup my cheek with the palm of his hand.

“And I’m not going to let those bad people hurt you or them. I promise.”

I sighed and nodded, before drawing him close to my heart once again.

“It’s time.” Ryder said moments later when he met us in the room. His fierce eyes grew warm when they rested on Noah and
