RYDER’s pov

“We can’t do this alone, that’s for sure.” I said quietly and reached for Amelia’s hand.

“Neither is your adversary.” Delilah chimed in and we turned to look at her. Her eyes had gone from having a faraway look- to white clear orbs, “Even now, Jasper is rallying multiple factions, amassing greater power than either one of you could with stand by yourselves.”

“Then we won’t fight by ourselves.” I said firmly, tightening my grip on Amelia’s hand, “We will fight together and we’re going to seek help as well.”

After our meeting, we thanked Delilah for her foresight and left.

“Where do we begin?” Amelia asked as we walked back to the room.

“I’m going to gather as many troops as I can. But don’t worry so much, Baby. I’m going to protect you. My family is your family now, Amelia. And I won’t let anyone hurt our family.”

She nodded slowly, although she still seemed a bit worried.

That night, while Amelia and Noah slept, and stayed awake conversing with my parents and asking for their support.

“We will be there by morning.” My father promised, and true to his word, they actually made it by first light.

“That was…. sudden.” I said as I greeted them in my study.

Amelia stood by the door and urged her to come forward. When she did, my parents hugged her warmly, before we got down to business.

“So Camille and Jasper want to go to the king to spread false rumors against the boy?” my mother asked and I nodded. “Well, we can’t let that happen.” My father said, but if the boy is as strong as you say, then you can no longer keep out of this. He has to know what is happening, and only then can we use his strength to our aid.”

“I had hoped to preserve whatever innocence he had left.” Amelia said quietly and my mother reached out to pat her legs maternally.

“I understand you, darling. But this is war, and one way or the other, his innocence is going to be further tampered with. I think it’s only safe if that happens on our terms. Don’t you think so?”

Amelia thought about it for a moment before nodding.

“Yes, I suppose you’re right.” she said quietly and then added, “So what do you suggest?”

“this is the plan I have in my head.” Father said, “We have more troops coming in today. But while that happens, you, Ryer and Noah will form the core of the guardians of this household and pack.”

I raised a brow and he explained further.

“Ryder, you are the Alpha and so everyone will look to you for wisdom. Plus, you have a ton of combat experience. I nodded slowly and he turned to Amelia, “Noah, the puppy has great strength. That brute and strength will be used to withstand the attacks that will surely come.”

“And me?” When Amelia asked this, father smiled.

“Ryder has told me all abour your new abilities, one of them is the way you protect and shield the minds of the warriors

from attacks. Our adversaries manipulate the minds of their foes, your abilities will come into play greatly in this aspect.”

“What a plan.” my mother said, “I Surely have not met a more formidable group.”

While my parents worked on the plan to gather more troops, Amelia and I visited Delilah again.

“Let’s see what she has to say about our new game plan.” I told Amelia and she agreed.

“It’s an indispensable team, I must agree.” Delilah said, and I raised a brow.

“But it’s lacking something. What is it?” I asked. I heard the undercurrent of doubt in her words.

“Your parents are strong, and so are the troops that they are gathering, but these people aren’t immune to pain. It’s a weakness if you are going to go into battle with Jasper and Camille. Those two plan to fight very dirtyly/and with an unfair advantage.”

“Pain is part of war.” I said, but Delilah shook her head.

“Your adversaries have an evil witch that helps them twice as fast. They would literally recover from your blows in a short time. You need an upper hand.” Delilah warned and I sighed.
