Escaping the Alpha, Claimed in the End novel Chapter 98

Chapter 98

AMELIA’s pov

“We will visit the starlight pack and ask for their allegiance” Ryder told me the next morning as we were about setting out for our journey.

“That’s the pack that is immune to pain?” I asked, and he nodded. “Well then, let’s waste no more time.”

We left Noah in the care of Ryder’s parents and headed out.

The starlight pack wasn’t very easy to find. Their pack was secluded from town, and we had to travel through thick forest to get there.

But Ryder was good with navigation.

“I wonder why they live so far away from town.” I said when we got to the starlight pack house.

“Perhaps because they don’t really wish to be found.” Ryder speculated and dusted off debris from my shirt.

We had just been ushered into the house by the Pack’s Beta, when the doorbell rang. The alpha had other visitors as well, it seemed.

“I don’t believe it.” Ryder gasped and swore, but I was a bit confused myself.

“What’s wrong?” I asked him, but I soon perceived them before I even saw them.

Jasper and Camille.

We turned just in time to see those two striding into the living room like they owned the place. But they were just as surprised to see us as we were to see them.

“Well, well.” Camille said, a sneer on her face, “Look what we have here.”

“Who is looking for me?” The Alpha’s voice boomed, before either me or Ryder got to react to their appearance.

I turned to face the Alpha. He was a tall and huge man, with beady eyes that observed his visitors carefully. But he showed no inclination to favor either party.

“Good day.” Jasper said quickly, and his demeanor showed that he was ready to be as sleazy as he needed to be to get whatever he wanted.

“Good day, nice to meet you.” The alpha said and looked at the rest of us, “it’s nice to meet each of you. I take it you’ve travelled a long distance to get here, why don’t you go in and rest a while before we chat? My Beta will lead you all in.”

He ushered us in graciously, but I could tell he was calculating each of us.

“That was unexpected.” I said to Ryder when we got to the room we were given. “I’m not all that surprised. I knew they would be looking for options. But then, I have to admit that it’s a bit crazy to be out here with them, right at this time,

“I know that’s right. I said and collapsed heavily unto the bed. My feet actually hurt from all the walking we’d done earlier. So it was pretty nice of the starlight’s pack Alpha to offer us a place to rest.

About an hour later, he invited us to a gathering among some other members of the pack. Jasper and Camille were present as well, but Ryder and I did our best to ignore their existence.

“Some of their pack men bers seem wounded.” I whispered to Ryder after observing the lot of them. Ryder looked around and nodded slowly

Chapter 98

“Yes, it seems so.”

I can help them… I think I’d like to volunteer to do just that.”

Ryder looked down at me and smiled, “That would be very thoughtful of you and I think they’d appreciate that

I smiled and nodded, before walking over to the wounded pack members.

They seemed skeptical at first, when I offered to help. But after I’d proven my healing abilities with the first wolf that accepted me, the rest happily gathered round me, in hopes that I could heal them too.

Camille sat close and made snide remarks that I chose to ignore.

“Of course she would do the most useless of things.” She drawled out and rolled her eyes, “trust Amelia to do just about anything to curry favors from Just about anyone. Pathetic.”

I paid her no mind.

When she saw that no one else cared what she had to say, she grew irritated and rose to leave. She was so furious and petty that she grew irrationally impatient with an old limping lady blocking her way.

“Get out of my way, grandma!” She said rudely and all but pushed her to the side.

A pack member who was close by, caught the old lady just in time before she fell, glaring at Camille as she walked away.

“Oh, she’s really done it now.” One of the pack members with me said, another gave a low whistle.

“The Alpha’s not going to like it when he hears his mother was treated that way.” another said, watching Camille’s retreating

form.

His mother? That was the Alpha’s mother?

Yep, Camille had really done it.

I suppose Jasper and Camille had simply come here, believing that they could fool the alpha into being on their side. But Ryder had done his assignment, he’d heard about the way the Alpha of this pack had previously joined another pack in battle for profit..

He’d heard about the way numerous members of this pack had gotten injured and even the fact that they’d lost their healer. They needed help, and Ryder and I had come here in hopes to offer some kind of help.

And so, when I saw this opportunity to help the injured, I took it. And when the Alpha appeared. I saw the way he watched the injured members of his pack that I’d just healed. I saw the softening in his gaze as they smiled in relief, and I knew what I’d done had made an impact.

After the little gathering, the Alpha invited Ryder and I for lunch. He also invited Jasper and Camille as well.
