Chapter 238 Two Shadows, One Red Car
“So,” Dorian said, “we’re just tailing Ruby now?”
Ares pulled out a cigarette and handed it over. “You’re doing the same thing with Arden.”
Dorian lit it, raised a brow. “What makes you think that?”
“Come on,” Ares said. “We’ve known each other forever.”

“You’re one to talk. The second you heard the guys downstairs talking about Ruby, you cracked. The woman’s a ten–brains, background, attitude. You think I didn’t see the line of rich boys chasing her at Celine’s party?”
Dorian lit Ares‘ cigarette, flicking the flame to life. Ares just took a drag, smoke curling from his lips like h hadn’t heard a word. He was quiet a beat before speaking again.
“I’m heading to Soutaria soon. Might not make it back.”
He paused. “So I figured–just seeing her one last time would be enough.”
He leaned against the window, cigarette hanging from his mouth, eyes half–lidded, tone cool as ever. Dorian slouched back, dressed in black, eyes narrowed.
The sunset spilled orange across his features–but nothing could melt the cold off his expression.
He exhaled a puff of smoke. “Lucien. Stay on Arden’s car.”
“Yes, sir.”
Silence filled the car. Two powerful men, each staring out their own window.
Lucien watched them in the mirror. Eventually, he spoke, “So… are we following them discreetly? Or… publicly?”
Dorian didn’t even blink. “What do you think?”
“Just asking for confirmation, boss.”
“You think Arden or Ruby would be thrilled to see us tagging along?”
“Point taken.”
“Then keep your distance. Don’t get caught.”
Ares chuckled under his breath. “Damn. Never thought I’d see the day two grown men had to sneak around just to look at the women they want.”
Dorian smirked. “You got the guts to walk right up to Ruby and say hi?”
“…No.”

“Then shut up and follow the damn car.”
Lucien quietly adjusted the wheel, keeping a careful distance behind the red sports car.
In the backseat of that car, Arden’s phone kept buzzing. She finally glanced down. It was Clark.
Clark sent a message, “Your friend still hasn’t added me. Help me out here.
A second message popped up right after.
Clark followed up, “Where are you guys having BBQ tonight? Drop the location.”
Arden asked, “Seriously? Another ‘accidental‘ meetup?”
Clark shot back, “Come on, are you giving me a chance or not? I’ve always treated you pretty well, haven’t
I?”
Arden replied, “Sorry. I’m having them over to my place tonight. No chance for a surprise run–in.”
Clark pressed on, “Then at least help me with an introduction.”
After a brief pause, Arden answered, “Fine. I’ll ask her.”
Celine leaned over. “Who’re you texting? Not my brother, right?”
Arden snorted. “What? No way. Your brother? He barely says ten words a day. I used to message him and never got a reply. Guy’s allergic to affection.”
“Ooooh!” Celine perked up. “So someone’s chasing you?”
“No. He’s chasing Isla.”
“Me?” Isla looked surprised, hands on the wheel. “Who?”
“Clark. From our office.”
“Oh, that guy.” Isla vaguely remembered someone trying to add her on WhatsApp, which she’d ignored.
“He’s still at it?” she asked.
