Chapter 239 Supermarket Stakeout

Ruby and Celine burst out laughing at her boldness. The car stopped at a red light, and Isla turned around.
“Arden, pull up his WhatsApp. I wanna say something to him.”
Arden passed her phone over, and Isla tapped the voice note icon without hesitation.
“So I heard you’re trying to shoot your shot, Clark?”
Arden was stunned by how direct she was. She gave Isla a thumbs–up.
“Respect. Absolute queen behavior.”
“Just messing with him,” Isla said casually. For her, life was about fun and freedom.
Clark replied fast, his voice trembling a little with excitement.
“Arden, was that Isla on your voice note just now?!”
Arden replied, “Yeah, Clark. But you’re way down the list–lots of guys chasing Isla. Good luck with that. We’re headed to grab groceries now, talk later.”
Clark asked, “You ladies need a strong man to carry your bags?”
Arden turned to Isla. “Clark wants to know if we need a big, strong guy to carry the groceries.”
“Absolutely not,” Isla said flatly.
Arden replied, “Isla said no thanks, Clark.”
Clark texted, “Come on, you’re all skinny little things. Let me be your free labor.”
Arden replied, “Don’t underestimate us modern women. We don’t need men to lift, we lift entire lives.”
They reached the plaza, and Arden put away her phone as they hopped out of the car.
It was just after six, and the city’s neon lights were glowing. The plaza was buzzing with people.
The girls made a beeline for the big supermarket. They were planning to do BBQ at Arden’s place- picking up the groceries, and some drinks.
Isla admitted, “Arden, we actually don’t really know how to do this. Did you plan it all out?”
Arden patted her chest. “Don’t worry, I’ve got it covered. Did all my research.”
She pulled out a little notebook with pages of neatly listed ingredients and prep instructions.
Celine was impressed. “Arden, did you spend all day at work thinking about this?”
“No! I didn’t slack off, I swear. I wrote it during my lunch break and added more last night.”

hished
Ruby flicked her forehead. “You’ve got serious wife potential, Arden. Whoever marries you is winning life.
“I’ve been learning to cook from my mom lately. That apartment I bought is near the office–I figure I’ll grocery shop and cook after work. Healthy and budget–friendly.”
Celine hooked her arm through Arden’s. “My brother’s an idiot for not appreciating you. Divorce? His loss.”
Arden shrugged. “Let’s not put it that way. With his kind of lifestyle, all he has to do is throw some cash, and plenty of people will cook for him. Honestly, even without money, his face and status alone could get him someone to cook three meals a day.”
They were still laughing as they entered the store–only to bump into Dorian and Ares at the entrance.
Both men were dressed in crisp shirts and ties, absurdly polished for a supermarket trip. Even more absurd? They were pushing a shopping cart.
Céline spotted them first.
She elbowed Ruby and Arden. “Tell me those two don’t look exactly like Dorian and Ares.”
Arden and Ruby looked up. Sure enough–it was them. They both immediately averted their gazes like it was a reflex.
Celine couldn’t resist. She walked over and tapped Dorian. “What are you guys doing here? Grocery shopping?”
Dorian and Ares turned around at the same time. They glanced behind them before returning to their usual impassive expressions.
Dorian answered with a straight face, “We had some business in the area.”
Ares added, “Ran out of body wash at home. Figured I’d pick some up.”
“Really? You two do your own shopping now? Wearing dress shirts and ties to buy body wash?”
“You’ve got staff for that, right?”
Dorian cleared his throat. “It was Ares’s idea. He wanted to experience real–life stuff. I came along.
Arden and Ruby casually pushed their own shopping cart past them without a word or glance.
