Everything Was a Deal Until Divorce
Chapter 249 Knives and Tension
Both men actually knew what they were doing.

Ares slipped on a pair of gloves as well, calm and practiced. He cut into the crab shells, then picked up a brush and started scrubbing them clean, methodical and focused.
Two men who looked like they belonged on magazine covers were standing side by side in the kitchen. sleeves rolled up, handling seafood like seasoned pros. It was unexpectedly easy on the eyes.
Dorian glanced back and caught Arden watching. He lifted a brow.
“With me, Ares, and Noah here,” he said, casual, “you girls go deal with the vegetables. Didn’t you say you were starving?”
Arden pointed at the tray. “Are these good to go straight on the grill?”
Dorian glanced over, picked one up, and ran his thumb along the edge. “Yeah. No need to open them- they’ll pop once the heat hits.”
He set a few aside. “Let’s get the butter and garlic going.”
He wiped his hands on a towel, then straightened and looked at her.
“Better?” he asked.
Arden lifted her thumb. “Yeah. That was legit.”
The corner of Dorian’s mouth curved up. Ares turned his head and looked toward Ruby.
She had been looking at him too, and there was no time to dodge it. Instead of looking away, she met his gaze head–on, steady and unflinching.
There was surprise in her eyes, nothing else.
In the past, just one glance from him would have made her cheeks warm, her eyes drop first. This time, nc matter how fast or hard her heart was pounding, she forced it down.
Ares looked away first. Ruby let out a slow breath.
Damn it.
That man knew exactly how lethal his face was. Just standing there was enough to wreck someone’s composure. If her self–control were any weaker, she would have folded on the spot.
Arden and the others carried the vegetables out to the living room. Caleb followed.
The kitchen was left to Ares, Dorian, Barry, Noah, and Vincent. Ares, Dorian, and Noah handled the shrimp and crab with smooth efficiency.
Barry cleared his throat. “I’ll learn too,” he said. “Might as well.”

Vincent nodded. “Same here.”
Ares glanced at Barry. “You don’t need to,” he said flatly.

Dorian shot Vincent a look, half–amused. “What, planning to impress Serena? Cooking for her yourself
now?”
Vincent met his gaze without backing down. “Mr. Vale, you’re awfully invested in my personal life.”
Dorian ignored him.
Noah kept his head down, focused on the prep. He barely knew the rest of them and had no interest in joining the conversation.
Once the seafood and oysters were mostly done, Arden and the others finished prepping the vegetables.
She carried a basket of greens back into the kitchen. Noah reached out.
“Arden, give it to me,” he said. “I’ll wash these. You go set up the grill base.”
She hesitated. “I can do it.”
Noah pulled off his gloves, stepped forward, and took the basket from her hands. “Bring everything that still needs washing over here. You handle the sauces.”
“Oh. Okay.”
She let go and turned to leave. Dorian watched Noah for a moment. Vincent noticed it. Barry noticed it. Ares noticed it too.
Noah rolled his sleeves higher. “Why are you all staring?”
Ares asked, neutral, “You and Arden seem close.”
“We stayed in touch after graduation,” Noah replied. “Good friends.”
Ruby came in with another basket. Barry rushed over, eager. “I’ve got it,” he said. “You go rest.”
“Thanks,” Ruby,replied.
Barry waved it off. “Compared to Mr. Vale and Ares, I’m barely helping.”
Ares glanced at him.
Ruby handed over the basket and walked out without looking at Ares.
Dorian took one last look at Noah, pulled off his gloves, and left the kitchen for the living room.
Ares followed.
Two long tables had been pushed together in the living room. Arden, Ruby, Isla, and Celine were setting up a split grill, arranging sauces and trays, busy and cheerful.
