"This one, that one, and... no, not that one. But get everything else in my darling Evelyn's size."
With a casual wave of his hand, Karl practically bought out the entire studio.
Evelyn felt both helpless and overwhelmed. What had she ever done to deserve such kindness from him?
"Mrs. Farrell, please close your eyes," a stylist murmured.
She reflexively squeezed her eyes shut.
By the time the entire styling session was finished, two hours had passed.
Karl looked extremely pleased. Projecting total authority, he escorted her to Maison Privée, one of the most exclusive restaurants in the city.
The moment they walked in, the floor manager hurried over to greet them. "Sir, Mr. Xavier Farrell is already waiting in the private room."
Evelyn froze, completely caught off guard. She had no idea he had invited her husband.
Thinking back to the harsh words she had overheard Xavier say near the living room entrance days ago, her chest tightened.
But she kept her mouth shut, knowing the older man was just trying to help her.
Karl gently patted her hand and smiled warmly. "Don't be afraid, sweetie. I've got your back."
Evelyn nodded and supported him as they followed the manager toward the Peony Room. Just as they reached the door, a soft, coquettish voice drifted out.
"Xavier, you're hurting me."
