Chloe froze in shock and looked up at him. “What?”
She had to admit it.

Ares Barclay possessed the kind of face that made every other man in Capital City feel inferior. With that lazy smile playing at the corner of his lips, even Chloe felt her heart skip a beat.
“In my eyes, Iris is already the best.” His tone remained polite but firm. “I hope you won’t waste any more time or effort on me, Miss Noir.”
The rejection was so direct that Chloe’s face stiffened.
Unwilling to give up, she pressed on. “But my sister might not be who you think she is! We could spend some time getting to know each other better-”
“No need.”
With that, he turned and headed toward Iris’s classroom, leaving Chloe standing there alone.
Before he even reached the doorway, he heard a confession coming from inside.
“We’ve already graduated. I’ve liked you for a really long time.” A male voice sounded nervous yet determined. “I want to stay by your side in the future too. You must have noticed how I feel, right? Could you give me a chance?”
“No.” Iris sounded thoroughly exasperated. “I need to leave.”
“Please, Iris! Just give me one chance!”
She had only returned to the classroom to pick something up.
Unfortunately, Luke had apparently been camping outside the classroom waiting for her.
Sophie and the others had already left, leaving Iris alone.
Luke held an enormous bouquet of roses in his arms. The moment he saw Iris wearing a dress and light makeup, he practically lost the ability to think.
Buzzing around her like an overexcited bee, he poured out confession after confession.
“Hey, please stop trying to steal my fiancée.”
Ares had originally been strolling leisurely toward the classroom.

The second he realized someone was confessing to Iris, he covered the remaining distance in two long strides and walked straight inside.
Luke frowned irritably. “Who the hell is interrupting-”
The moment he turned around and saw Ares’s face, he swallowed hard.
“M-Mr. Barclay? Why are you here?”
Damn it.
Why was his luck so terrible?
The last time he’d gone home furious and demanded that his parents help him get revenge, they had investigated Ares’s identity first.
The result?
Luke had received two hard slaps from his parents before anyone else.
You dared offend Mr. Barclay? Do you have a death wish?
“So… you’re engaged?”
Luke still felt reluctant to give up.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t nearly brave enough to challenge Ares.
After a lengthy internal struggle, he finally shoved the bouquet toward them.
“Then… you two can have the flowers.”
After getting into the car, Iris received another message from Luke.
[If you and Mr. Barclay ever break up, I’ll still be waiting for you!]
Without hesitation, Iris exited the chat and ignored him.
Noticing her fatigue, Ares didn’t insist on extending their time together.
Instead, he drove her straight home.
The engagement was settled.
They had plenty of time ahead of them.
That evening, during dinner at the Noir residence, Eleanor asked curiously about the day’s

“Iris, what do you think of Ares?”
“He’s pretty great.”
Thinking back on everything that had happened, Iris realized that every time she’d encountered trouble, Ares had been there to help.
With him around, a lot of problems became much easier to handle.
Richard smiled immediately. “Good! That’s good!”
Then he remembered something.
“Oh, right, Iris. About Venus Cosmetics.”
“The general manager just left for another company. If you go over there now, you’ll step directly into the position. I’ll call ahead and make sure nobody gives you trouble.”
“No need.” Iris shook her head. “Results speak louder than introductions. It’ll be easier to earn respect that way.”
Richard had secretly worried that his daughter was too young. Managing a company came with tremendous pressure. He feared people might underestimate or even bully her. Hearing her response, however, filled him with pride.
“Excellent!” He laughed loudly. “That’s exactly what I’d expect from my daughter! I’ll send you all the company documents later. If there’s anything you don’t understand, just ask me.”
“Dad, I’ve decided not to travel anymore. I want to help manage the company too.”
