Chapter 102 Intern
The two office workers finally noticed Iris.
Seeing that she looked young and had a pleasant voice, they instinctively warmed to her.
“You’re a new intern?” One of them smiled. “What did you want to ask?”
“Is the company really as relaxed as you make it sound?”
The two exchanged glances and burst out laughing.
“If you already passed the interview, then you’ve got nothing to worry about.”

“Seriously, as long as you don’t offend the department heads, you could practically retire here.”
The other employee chuckled.
“Of course, if you’re ambitious and want to build a real career in the cosmetics industry, this probably isn’t the place for you.”
“Our CEO just jumped ship to another company. The business is barely hanging on, but somehow it
hasn’t collapsed yet.”
He lowered his voice conspiratorially.
“As long as you’re on good terms with administration, nobody cares if you’re late, leave early, or take time off.”
The pair enthusiastically introduced the company to her.
When they heard that the receptionist had sent her to Supervisor Zedd, both of them winced.
“Supervisor Zedd…” One of them hesitated. “Just stay out of his way whenever possible. He-”
Ding.
The elevator doors opened.
Both employees immediately stopped talking.
After pointing her in the right direction, they headed back to their desks.
The moment Iris stepped out of the elevator, her phone rang.

“President Zero, this is Bella, your assistant. Where are you? I’ll come pick you up.”
The caller was Bella, the former CEO’s secretary.
Since Iris had specifically told Richard not to reveal her identity as the Noir family’s daughter, the name given to the company was simply Zero.
“No need to pick me up.” Iris continued walking. “My arrival hasn’t been announced yet, right?”
Bella sounded surprised. “Not yet. Chairman Noir instructed everyone not to make a public announcement. He said any decisions should be made only after consulting you first.”
Privately, she was curious.
Just who was this new President Zero?
What kind of relationship did she have with Chairman Noir to receive such treatment?
“Keep it that way for now.” Iris lowered her voice. “We’ll communicate through messages. Treat me as a new intern and don’t let anyone know who I am.”
“Understood.” Bella had originally worked at Noir Group and had been personally transferred over by Richard.
He was still worried that his daughter might struggle during her first time managing a company, so he’d arranged for someone absolutely trustworthy to help her.
After ending the call, Iris headed toward Supervisor Zedd’s office.
Along the way, she quietly observed the department.
Most employees were slacking off.
Several monitors openly displayed colorful online games.
Others gathered around the break area, gossiping and eating breakfast.
The number of people actually working could be counted on one hand.
“What is wrong with you people?!”
A sudden male voice drew her attention.
A middle-aged man in a black suit with a noticeable beer belly stood beside a workstation, berating a female employee.

“Supervisor Zedd, I’m sorry, but the client simply has no intention of partnering with us. And with the products we currently have available—”
“Then you obviously didn’t negotiate hard enough!” His voice rose sharply. “Take them out to dinner again tonight. Drink a few more glasses with them. Make them happy and you’ll get the contract!”
He jabbed a finger toward her. “Otherwise, what exactly is this company paying you for?”
A little farther away, two employees whispered among themselves.
“Supervisor Zedd is at it again.”
“Yep. Any woman who doesn’t let him take advantage of her ends up being targeted like this.”
The other employee snorted.
“Honestly, I only stopped getting harassed after I started bringing him gifts.”
After finishing his lecture, Supervisor Zedd finally removed his hand from the visibly distressed employee’s shoulder.
Satisfied, he clasped his hands behind his back and turned to leave.
Then he spotted Iris.
His eyes lit up immediately.
Compared to the exhausted-looking women around the office, she stood out like a fresh white lily blooming in a muddy pond.
Even his voice softened.
“Miss, are you looking for someone?”
Iris shook her head. “I’m the new intern. The receptionist told me to come to you so you could assign me some work.”
A new employee?
Supervisor Zedd’s smile widened until the flesh on his face practically bunched together.
“What’s your name?” He put on the expression of a kind elder. “Interning with the Marketing Department?”
“My name is Iris.”

“Iris, huh?” He nodded. “Good. Caden, take the new girl under your wing for now. I have a meeting to attend.”
A man in glasses and a wrinkled plaid shirt stood up from his desk and answered reluctantly.
After Zedd returned to his office, Caden led Iris to an empty workstation.
Looking around, Iris noticed that several surrounding desks were vacant.
“Why is my desk so isolated from everyone else?”
“It isn’t isolated.” Caden adjusted his glasses. “The people who sit here just haven’t shown up for days.”
