Chapter 12 Defending Iris
Chapter 12 Defending Iris
Iris watched the performance expressionlessly.
Exactly the same act.
Different stage.
Same actress.
Vanessa’s expression darkened.

Her son had told her everything. Because of Iris, he had lost his position at the hospital. No medical institution in the city was willing to hire him anymore, forcing him to leave the country and continue his career abroad.
The more Vanessa looked at Iris, the more convinced she became that this shameless girl had used underhanded means to ruin her son’s future.
“You have no connection to the Sutton family anymore!” Vanessa snapped. “Why do you keep pestering us? Langley lost his career because of you and was forced to leave the country. And now, when Olivia is kind enough to help you, you’re still not satisfied? What exactly do you want?”
Vanessa crossed her arms and looked down at Iris with undisguised contempt.
“You want more money? Is that it? Fine.”
She reached into her designer purse, pulled out a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills, and tossed it onto the floor at Iris’s feet.
“Then kneel down and apologize to Olivia.”
“Every dollar on the floor will be yours.”
Her gaze swept over Iris’s plain hoodie, and a sneer curled her lips.
“This alone is enough to buy a hundred knockoff’s like the one you’re wearing.”
Iris glanced down at the cash.
Then calmly said, “Not enough.”
Vanessa stared.
“What?”
Without a word, Iris rolled up one sleeve and revealed the label sewn inside.
“IR”
She looked directly at Vanessa.

You couldn’t even buy a loose thread from this hoodie with that amount.”
Vanessa burst out laughing.

“Do you even know what IR is?” Her expression dripped with mockery. “A hair tie from IR costs hundreds
She pointed at the hoodie.
“You bought a fake from a street market and now you’re pretending it’s real?”
Iris nodded toward the IR boutique across the corridor.
“Then let’s have them authenticate it.”
Silence.
Finally Vanessa scoffed.
“Fine.” She folded her arms. “Let’s see how long you can keep lying.”
Inside the IR boutique, a sales associate carefully examined the garment.
Several minutes later, she looked up.
“I’m very sorry, ma’am.”
Vanessa smirked.
Until the associate continued.
“This is authentic.”
The smile vanished.
The sales associate continued:
“It’s the Blessing Collection anniversary hoodie.”
She glanced at Iris respectfully.
“Only one was ever produced.”
The color drained from both Vanessa’s and Olivia’s faces,
Authentic?
How?
The sales associate wasn’t finished.
“Because of the material, this type of stain requires professional restoration.”

Chapter 12 Defending Iris
Vanessa gritted her teeth.
Fe” She slapped her card onto the counter. “Charge whatever fee you need.”
Then she added impatiently.
“Hurry up. We have places to be.”
While the payment was processing, Olivia kept staring at Iris.
How could she possibly afford a hoodie like that?
Then her eyes drifted to Emma.
Understanding dawned.
Of course.
The wealthy family she worked for must have discarded it.
She’d probably taken it out of the trash.
That had to be it.
A low-class girl would always be a low-class girl.
The thought immediately made Olivia feel much better.
Several moments passed. The transaction still wasn’t approved.
Vanessa’s patience snapped. She marched over to the register and slammed her hand on the counter.
“What is taking so long?”
The sales associate finally looked up.
Then handed the card back.
Her smile was polite.
Her words were devastating.
I’m sorry, ma’am.”
She paused.
“Your card was declined.”
Vanessa nearly cursed out loud.
For a second, she’d thought the card machine was malfunctioning.

Instead, it turned out she simply didn’t have enough money in the account.
“How is that possible?” she snapped. “It’s just a cleaning fee!”
The sales associate maintained her professional smile.

“Ma’am, due to the specialized materials used in the Blessing Collection, the restoration fee is thirty thousand dollars.”
Thirty thousand?
Vanessa’s face changed instantly. It wasn’t that she couldn’t afford it. The problem was that she hadn’t brought that much money with her.
And if she suddenly spent that amount today, she’d definitely end up arguing with her husband later.
As she hesitated. Emma rolled her eyes dramatically. She waved a tiny hand.
“Miss!”
The associate immediately crouched down. “Yes, sweetheart?”
“Put it on my card.”
Emma pointed at Iris.
“And bring my Pretty Sister another hoodie from the same collection while you’re at it.”
She crossed her arms.
Some people have terrible manners. They’ve been making her stand around in dirty clothes this whole time.”
Olivia immediately stepped forward.
“Sis, you’ve already accepted hand-me-downs from your employer. Don’t trick a little girl into paying for
you too.”
Emma frowned. “Why do you care?”
She hugged Iris’s arm possessively. “I want to buy things for my Pretty Sister.”
Then she proudly declared:
I’ll even spoil her if I want to!”
The corner of Iris’s eye twitched.
Where exactly had this child learned that phrase?
Emma had been defending Iris nonstop.
