Chapter 13 Apologize
Back inside the boutique. Olivia covered her mouth and laughed.
“Oh?” She tilted her head. “Your performance was pretty impressive a minute ago.”
Her eyes sparkled with mockery.
“So you stole your parents’ credit card?”
Emma puffed out her cheeks. “I did not!”
“Then why don’t you know the PIN?”
“I forgot!”
The answer only made Olivia laugh harder.
Emma quickly pulled out her children’s phone.
But she hesitated.
She didn’t want to call Ares.
He hated interruptions during meetings.
Once, she’d interrupted an important conference call, and he’d actually gotten angry.
The memory still haunted her.
“The card really belongs to my uncle!” She stamped her foot. “I didn’t steal it!”
Then she pointed furiously at Olivia.
“You’re the bad guys!”
“You bullied Pretty Sister and now you’re bullying me too!”
“When my uncle gets here, you’re in trouble!”
The word stole had clearly hit a nerve.

Emma launched into a rapid-fire rant.
Olivia sneered.
“What a liar.” She folded her arms. “If it was really your card, you’d know the PIN.”
Then she glanced at Iris.
“Honestly, Iris, you’re a disaster. Now you’re teaching children to be thieves too.”

Chapter 13 Apologize
Vanessa finally grabbed Olivia’s arm.
L’s go. She looked at Iris coldly. “Not a single cent from us.”
The two women turned toward the exit.
Only to stop abruptly.
Two bodyguards blocked their path.
“What’s going on?” Vanessa demanded.
A man stepped out from behind them.
Elegant.
Composed.
Dangerous.
Every movement carried the effortless confidence of someone born into power.
As he passed Olivia, he barely spared her a glance.
Yet that single look was enough to make her heart skip a beat.
He was unbelievably handsome.
“Please stay a moment.”
Ares’s voice was calm.
The instant Emma heard it, her mouth trembled.
Then she burst into tears.
Loudly.
Dramatically.
The transformation was so fast it deserved an award.
“It was them!” She pointed accusingly. “They called me a thief!”
Tears streamed down her cheeks.
“They bullied Pretty Sister too!”
Halfway through her crying fit, she secretly winked at Iris before continuing.
Iris silently handed her another tissue.

What an actress

Emma cried so hard she could barely speak.
Ares eventually gave up trying to understand her version of events.
Instead, he turned to Iris.
“What happened?”
Iris summarized everything in under a minute.
Concise.
Accurate.
Objective.
Ares listened quietly.
Then nodded.
Without another word, he walked toward Vanessa and Olivia.
Olivia immediately straightened. She brushed her hair behind one ear and offered her most charming smile.
Hello. I’m Olivia Sutton, daughter of the Sutton family, the wealthiest family in Ashford.”
Ares nodded once.
“You may apologize now.”
Olivia’s smile froze. “…What?”
She quickly recovered.
“Actually, we’ve already offered compensation.”
She pointed toward Iris.
“But she’s being unreasonable. She’s demanding full compensation for a hoodie she probably got secondhand from your family.”
Olivia lifted her chin confidently.
Surely this would damage Iris’s image.
Maybe he’d even fire her.
Julian stepped forward helpfully.

Chapter 13 Apologize
Damaging property valued over three thousand dollars qualifies for criminal charges He smiled Vasantly Thirty thousand dollars could result in actual jail ume”
Vanessa’s face instantly changed.
“We’ll pay!”
She hurriedly interrupted him.
“We never said we wouldn’t.”
There was no way she was letting Olivia end up with a police record over something this stupid.
Olivia looked horrified.
A quick phone call later, Vanessa’s secretary transferred the money.
The cleaning fee was paid.
Then Vanessa shot Olivia a meaningful look.
Grinding her teeth, Olivia walked toward Iris.
“I’m sorry.”
The words sounded painful.
“I shouldn’t have accidentally ruined your hoodie.”
“Okay.” Iris nodded. Then tilted her head toward Emma. “And?”
Olivia nearly exploded. She had to apologize to a child too?
But one look from Vanessa silenced any protest
She’d only recently returned to the family.
Defying her mother now wasn’t worth it.
“Sorry.”
She forced the words out.
“Sorry, little girl.”
Any admiration she’d briefly felt for Ares vanished completely.
All that remained was humiliation.
She glared at him.
