Chapter 14 The Banquet Invitation

Chapter 14 The Banquet Invitation

Iris had the driver stop outside the gates of Greenview Estate.

Xavier was waiting for her there, playing the role of a casual friend as he escorted her inside.

After passing through retinal security and entering Villa 021, the two stepped into the building

The villa wasn’t really a residence.

It was Iris’s private pharmaceutical research facility.

At first, she’d simply wanted a quiet place to conduct experiments. Over time, her work had attracted several renowned researchers and specialists. One expert brought another, and before long, a full research team had formed.

The facility had anonymously published numerous medical studies over the years.

Everyone working there shared the same obsession.

Research.

Not fame.

Not money.

Certainly not publicity.

A researcher hurried over with a stack of reports.

“Zero.”

That was the name Iris used in the medical world.

“We’ve completed several new trial groups, but the results haven’t been ideal. We can’t figure out what’s wrong

Iris accepted the data sheets and reviewed them.

After a moment, she pointed at one section.

“Group Three has potential.”

Her finger moved lower.

“Increase the dosage in Sample 02.”

The researcher’s eyes lit up.

“Got it!”

Once he left, Iris pulled over a rolling chair and slid across the room toward Xavier

She crossed one leg over the other.

“What was so important that you dragged me here?”

Xavier pulled a gold-trimmed invitation from his jacket.

“Henry Caldwell.”

He handed it to her.

“The billionaire philanthropist.”

Iris glanced at the invitation.

Henry Caldwell had recently returned to the country and was hosting a charity gala in partnership with several major medical organizations.

The event would take place three days later.

“He heard about the new Anderson-Fabry treatment.” Xavier leaned against a nearby desk. “He wants to discuss a partnership.”

“What does he offer?”

Iris wasn’t interested in publicity.

The first batch of medication was extremely limited. She intended to reserve it for critically ill patients.

Henry wasn’t anywhere close to that category.

Xavier grinned.

“That’s actually the second reason I called you.” His expression became more serious. “The herb you’ve been searching for.”

Iris immediately looked up. “You found it?”

“For all practical purposes, yes.” He tapped the invitation. “Henry brought it back with him.”

For nearly three months, she’d searched for that rare medicinal ingredient without success.

Obtaining it would significantly accelerate several ongoing projects.

Including one she’d been working on in secret.

After a long pause, she made a decision.

Tll prepare the medication.”

She handed the invitation back.

“You attend the gala for me.”

Xavier blinked. “You’re skipping it?”

I just got to the Capital.” Her voice remained calm. “I don’t want people connecting me to the research facility yet.”

After discussing a few additional matters with the team, Iris checked the time.

It was getting late.

Not wanting Richard and Eleanor to worry, she headed home.

The moment she entered Crown Heights Estate, Richard waved her over.

“Perfect timing.”

He held up a familiar invitation.

Iris immediately felt a headache coming.

Please don’t.

L

“Henry Caldwell’s charity gala.” Richard smiled. “Your mother and I thought it would be a good opportunity.”

Eleanor nodded enthusiastically.

“You’ve only recently come home. We’d love for people to meet you.”

The official Noir family introduction would have to wait until several older family members returned.

That could take weeks.

Maybe months.

A less formal event like this would be a good start.

Iris had little interest in social gatherings.

Unfortunately, both Richard and Eleanor looked so hopeful that she eventually gave in.

“Fine.”

The two of them looked absurdly pleased with themselves.

That evening. Chloe returned home.

Chapter 14 The Banquet Invitation

When Eleanor casually mentioned the gala over dinner, Chloe nearly dropped her fork

“She’s coming too? The disbelief was impossible to hide.

A gala?

With them?

What was Iris supposed to do there?

Did she even understand upper-class etiquette?

Eleanor placed another serving of food onto Iris’s plate.

“Of course.” She smiled warmly. “It’s time people met my daughter.”

Then she added:

“I’ve already ordered gowns for both of you. They should arrive tomorrow.””

Chloe forced a smile.

What choice did she have?

Her parents had already decided.

The dresses arrived early the next morning.

The boutique had worked overnight to finish them.

When Chloe came downstairs, the first thing she saw was a beautiful blush-pink gown displayed across the sofa.

The design was elegant and youthful.

Perfect for a wealthy socialite.

Eleanor brightened immediately.
