Chapter 131 Blinded By Love

At the mention of Marcus, Stella’s expression finally softened. She glanced around before lowering her voice.

“This isn’t a good place to talk. Let’s go upstairs.”

The second floor housed a row of simple private rooms. From the outside, Ruins Bar looked like a crumbling wreck, but inside it was surprisingly well–equipped–even with an elevator.

Stella led Iris into the elevator and up to the second floor, then casually pushed open the door to an empty private room.

“How… how’s my brother doing?”

“The surgery was successful. He woke up and found he couldn’t reach you.”

Stella let out a helpless sigh.

“Tell him to stop trying to contact me. You heard what happened downstairs. I’ve gotten myself into trouble. I threw away my phone because I don’t want to drag him into this.”

Iris pulled up a screenshot of the text message she’d received and showed it to her.

“You already have.”

“So… they really aren’t going to let me go…” Taking the tissues Iris offered this time, Stella gently wiped the blood from her forehead.

From across the room, Iris examined the wound.

“It’s not very deep. Do you have a first–aid kit? It needs to be disinfected.”

“It’s fine.” Stella smiled bitterly. “I’m used to it.”

“I can take you to your brother,” Iris said. “But first, you need to tell me exactly what kind of trouble you’re in.”

Stella gave a hollow laugh and looked up at the ceiling. “Would it make any difference if I did?”

“How do you think I found you?”

Silence.

She stared at the ceiling for a long time, debating whether she should tell the truth.

A woman who dares walk into Ruins Bar alone isn’t ordinary…‘ Stella thought. And judging by how calm she is, she definitely came prepared.‘

While Stella hesitated, Iris had already pieced together most of the story.

“Your boyfriend got himself into trouble and skipped town, leaving you to take the fall. The only reason you’re still safe is because you have something the owner of Ruins Bar needs, so he has no choice but to protect you, right?”

“He didn’t run away!” Stella immediately snapped back. “He went to find help! Once he finds someone who can help us, he’ll come back and save me!”

Iris simply looked at her without saying a word.

“Jack told me…” Stella’s voice softened. “He said I’m just a woman. They won’t really do anything to me. I love him. I’m willing to trust him… and help him.”

Her face filled with happiness at the mention of Jack.

Paired with her battered appearance, the expression was painfully ironic.

Iris was speechless.

Now she finally understood why Sophie Bennett always cursed out hopelessly lovestruck heroines whenever she read romance novels.

“So you’re not coming with me?”

Stella shook her head. “Jack and I agreed I’d wait for him here.”

If Marcus hadn’t personally asked for her help, Iris would have turned around and left right

then.

She had already identified the anonymous user who’d demanded an outrageous fee for information.

It was Jack.

He hadn’t escaped at all.

He’d already been captured, and the only reason he was still alive was because he had sold Stella’s location to save himself.

“If he comes looking for you,” Iris said quietly, “don’t tell him where you’ve hidden it.”

She stepped closer until they were face–to–face. “Do that… and you’ll finally see who he really is.”

Stella’s emotions flared.

“Fine! I’ll do it! Jack and I have been through so much together. What is there to be afraid of?”

She and Jack had met at Ruins Bar.

It had been love at first sight.

After discovering that Stella had some computer skills, he constantly asked her to encrypt files for him.

Jack didn’t have a legitimate job. He survived by delivering messages for various underworld figures in Lystra. Once they started dating, Stella became his financial support–and he gradually shifted more and more of the risks onto her shoulders.

“If you’re determined to wait, then stay in this room,” Iris said. “Don’t go downstairs. At this hour, you won’t even be able to find a taxi. Wait until tonight, when people start coming in, and then you can catch one home.”

Stella’s face was filled with resolve.

There was no way this place was just an ordinary nightclub.

Even with a mask covering most of her face, her elegant bearing stood out from the crowd. Her jet–black hair contrasted sharply with the sea of brightly dyed colors around her, quickly attracting attention.

“Don’t be an idiot! That man’s here today. He’s upstairs. Don’t you dare cause trouble.”

“Got it.”
