Fake Daughter Is The Real Legend
Chapter 146 Her Past
Theodore Barclay frowned, instinctively coming to Iris’s defense.
“Rumi, that’s enough. Iris is only trying to help, and she does know medicine.”

“She treated me not long ago. Haven’t you noticed how much better I’ve been feeling lately?”
Rumi bit back her response.
Better?
She seriously doubted it had anything to do with a few acupuncture needles.
More likely, Theodore had been taking some expensive new medication or supplements.
She looked back at Iris.
“Fine. Then tell us–what poison are you talking about?”
Iris didn’t answer immediately.
She gently lifted one of Evelyn Young’s eyelids, then turned her head slightly to examine the color of her complexion.
Nearby, Chloe lightly tugged on Richard’s sleeve.
“Mom… Dad…” she whispered. “What if Iris makes Grandma Young’s condition even worse? Shouldn’t someone stop her?”
Her voice was full of concern, but a flicker of anticipation flashed in her eyes before she could hide it.
Richard leaned closer to Eleanor and lowered his voice.
“Since when does Iris know medicine? Weren’t her adoptive parents business owners?”
“I have no idea,” Eleanor admitted, equally bewildered. “But one thing I do know–I’ve never known Iris to lie.”
After spending the past few months with her daughter, she had learned one thing.
Iris had never been one to make outrageous claims for attention.
“It’s a newly developed compound from overseas,” she said. “Type B N–1.”

The two physicians exchanged puzzled looks.
“Type B N–1?” one of them repeated. “What’s that?”
Neither of them had ever heard of it. Had she just made it up?

Reading the skepticism on their faces, Iris explained calmly, “It’s an experimental compound developed overseas. There isn’t a laboratory in this country capable of detecting it yet. Simply put, it’s a slow–acting poison.”
Ares spoke quietly. “Can you treat it?”
“Yes.” Iris nodded. “I can use acupuncture to stabilize her condition and stop the toxin from causing further damage, but it’ll only buy us about two weeks. The poison has to be completely eliminated within that time.”
Rumi stepped forward, unable to hide the hope in her voice.
“Will my mother wake up?”
“She will,” Iris replied. “But afterward, she’ll need a long course of herbal medicine to fully
recover.”
For the first time in years, hope flickered across Rumi’s exhausted face.
Over the years, they’d consulted some of the world’s leading specialists. Every one of them had reached the same conclusion: the odds of Evelyn ever regaining consciousness were virtually nonexistent. Yet this young woman was speaking with absolute certainty.
It was an enormous gamble.
Rumi hesitated. Was she really willing to entrust her mother’s life to Iris?
“If something goes wrong…”
Before she could finish, Ares cut her off.
“I’ll take full responsibility.”
Every head in the room turned toward him.
Chloe stared at him in disbelief.
“Ares… you’ve only just started dating my sister. Are you really willing to stake everything on her? What if she doesn’t actually know what she’s doing?”
“There is no ‘what if.“”

Ares didn’t even glance at Chloe. He crossed the room and came to stand beside Iris without the slightest hesitation, his trust in her absolute.
Looking directly at Rumi, he said, “If anything happens because of this, the Barclay Group will accept full responsibility. Whatever compensation you ask for, I’ll personally see that it’s honored.”
Rumi trusted Ares completely.
With his guarantee, she finally nodded.
Everyone present knew exactly what kind of man Ares Barclay was.
If he was willing to stake his own reputation on Iris…
Then she couldn’t possibly be all talk.
Receiving permission from the Young family, Iris sat beside Evelyn Young’s bed.
Without saying a word, she handed her long roll of acupuncture needles to Ares. He naturally took it and stood beside her, holding it open for her.
People outside had been planning to come in and watch the excitement.
Instead…
They witnessed an astonishing sight.
The ruthless, cold–blooded Ares Barclay, whose name dominated the business world…
Was standing obediently beside Iris, happily acting as her assistant by holding her acupuncture kit.
And…
He actually looked pleased about it.
Iris inserted one silver needle after another into their corresponding acupuncture points.
The instant the final needle slid into place-
Evelyn Young’s eyes suddenly flew open.
Without warning-
She coughed up a mouthful of black blood.
