“The standards in Professor Joe’s lab are pretty demanding. You’d better start preparing now.”
Her roommate’s reminder finally helped Gabriela calm down.
Professor Joe was the foremost authority in the School of Biomedical Sciences. Anyone fortunate ough to work as an assistant in his lab would have a much easier time finding a job after graduation–sor were even offered positions at the university.
Every year when freshmen enrolled, he selected a handful of juniors to assist him and his gradua students with research.
Everyone wanted that opportunity.
Gabriela was no exception.
“You’re right. I’d better get ready. But I’ve ranked first in the department every semester, and my GPA is way ahead of second place. There shouldn’t be any problems, right?”
Gabriela had always been one of the department’s top students. Most people were already convinced she’d be chosen for the lab this year.
The freshmen hadn’t spent much time settling into their dorms before they were called to the auditorium for the freshman orientation.
Although it was called a lecture, it was really just an introduction. Faculty advisors from each department gave a brief overview of the university and their programs, along with a healthy dose of motivational speeches.
Everyone who had made it into Capital University was among the brightest students in the country. The competition here would be fiercer than ever–but so would the opportunities to surpass themselves.
Iris found herself growing sleepy.
Turning her head, she noticed Hannah listening with complete concentration.
Sensing Iris’s gaze, Hannah smiled sheepishly.
“Capital University has always been my dream. Even sitting here still doesn’t feel real, so I don’t want to miss a single word.”
She paused before saying sincerely.
“Thank you, Iris

by Chloe and her friends, let alone sitting in Capital University’s auditorium today.
“When I need your help someday, I won’t hesitate to ask.”
Hannah blinked in surprise before breaking into a smile.
“Of course.”

She might have buried herself in studying most of the time, but she was still perceptive enough to ptice changes in people.
Compared to when Iris had first transferred into Foundation Class…
She seemed a little more… alive.
After going over enrollment guidelines and the upcoming schedule, the university officials dismissed the freshmen.
“For students in Biomedical Sciences, if you’re interested, Professor Joe will be giving a lecture tomorrow. Most of the material is aimed at juniors and seniors, but freshmen are welcome to attend and get a feel for it. Students from related majors are welcome as well.”
Hannah turned to Iris.
“Are you going?”
As a finance major, she wouldn’t understand much of the biomedical content.
“I am.”
The phrase too difficult for freshmen only applied to ordinary students.
Iris could already discuss research on equal footing with someone like Professor Joe.
That wasn’t a concern for her.
As they stepped out of the auditorium, someone called out behind them.
“Iris!”
That voice…
Iris turned around and saw Sophie running toward them with an excited grin.
“Iris! It’s been forever!”
Sophie was noticeably more tanned than before.
She rushed over enthusiastically, only to stop in her tracks as she looked Iris up and down.
Iris raised an eyebrow.

“What is it?”
“…is… did you get taller again?”
Seriously?
How was that fair?

After one summer, she’d gotten darker and thinner, while Iris somehow had become even prettier and taller.
Back at Capital Preparatory Academy, they’d been exactly the same height!
“Oh, come on! We haven’t seen each other in ages. Let’s hang out! Wherever you’re going, I’m coming too!” Even though the campus was brand new, somehow everything still felt familiar. Watching the three of them walk away together, Gabriela let out a derisive snort. “Making friends pretty quickly, aren’t you? You’d better enjoy it while it lasts.” ‘Once student council applications start… your good days will be over‘
Zane had already sent over the day’s reports, along with a voice call request.
“Boss, why didn’t you just take a private dorm? Now you have to come all the way out onto the balcony just to discuss work.”
