Chapter 277 Husband And Daughter
Chapter 277 Husband And Daughter
When Professor Joe heard the words, his composure nearly cracked.
‘What on earth is wrong with these students? Is this really where their minds go?‘
“Don’t jump to conclusions! Iris-”
He almost blurted out that Iris had already been assisting in his lab long before this.
Fortunately, he caught himself just in time.
Iris had specifically asked him not to make that public.
Iris also realized something.

Professor Joe might be a leading authority in academia, but when it came to making up believable explanations on the spot, he was completely out of his depth.
She stood up. “I previously worked as a representative for Lytton Pharmaceuticals. Professor Joe and I met during a collaboration between Capital University’s laboratory and Lytton Pharmaceuticals. That’s why I looked familiar to him.”
Under Iris’s calm gaze, the student who had raised the question slowly nodded.
It was a reasonable explanation.
At least on the surface.
Although…
Previously?
She had worked as a representative for a company as large as Lytton Pharmaceuticals while she was still in high school?
It still sounded a little far–fetched.
But this wasn’t the place to keep pressing the issue.
Anyone with eyes could tell Professor Joe was genuinely angry.
Seeing that the whispers had finally died down, Professor Joe packed up his materials.
“If anyone has questions, come see me in my office. That concludes today’s lecture.”
With that, the lecture ended, and the students gradually filed out of the auditorium.
Gabriela remained in her seat, her eyes red with frustration.
The classmate beside her tried to comfort her.

“Gabriela, don’t be too upset. There are other labs you can apply for.”
She simply nodded without saying anything
If she spoke another word, she was afraid she’d march to the back row and start yelling at Iris.
Department decision? Yeah, right.
Professor Joe was obviously playing favorites!
So was the principal!
Neither of those incidents had been her fault.

It was Iris’s powerful connections that had stolen the opportunity that should have belonged to her.
“Iris.”
As Iris walked past, Gabriela couldn’t stop herself from calling out
Iris paused.
“Don’t get too full of yourself. How far do you think you’ll get by relying on connections?”
Without even looking at her, Iris replied, “What makes you think I’m relying on connections?”
Gabriela sneered. “What else could it be? You’re just a freshman. You answered questions that difficult, and then you took my place in Professor Joe’s lab?”
She was convinced Iris was getting revenge over the admission letter incident.
Because of their earlier conflict, Iris had deliberately stolen her lab position.
“If your own knowledge is limited, don’t assume everyone else shares your limitations.”
Iris finally turned to look at her.
“And this year there were only three lab positions to begin with. You were never one of them.”
With that, Iris walked away before Gabriela had a chance to respond.
She already knew–before school had even started–that Professor Joe’s lab had reduced its openings by one compared to the previous year.
She had overheard the graduate students discussing it.
She hadn’t taken anyone’s spot.
In fact, her own position had been an extra one that Professor Joe decided to add at the last minute
But Gabriela refused to believe it

Instead, she blamed everything on Iris and hated her even more.
After the lecture, Iris returned to the dormitory.

Two days passed in the blink of an eye.
On the final day before classes officially began, the university distributed military training uniforto a freshmen.
“Iris! Someone’s here to see you downstairs!”
Ares Barclay stood out no matter where he went.
It was her first time visiting Capital University with her uncle, and everything fascinated her.
She immediately let go of Ares’s hand and ran toward her.
“Sister Iris!”
