Professor Miles was one of Capital University’s most respected academics. Every high school textbook used across the country had passed through his hands at some point during the editorial process.
Families with money and influence were constantly trying to hire him as a private tutor, but he rarely accepted. Between his teaching and research commitments, he barely had time. Even his personal study guides were considered invaluable–something connections, not money, usually secured.
Yet Ares had somehow obtained an entire stack.
“Doesn’t Professor Miles refuse to prepare exam materials?” Iris asked.
Julian nodded. “Normally, yes. But Ares knows him personally.”
That was putting it mildly.
Professor Miles had turned him down more than once. Only after Ares offered resources and connections that could significantly advance several ongoing research projects had the professor finally agreed. He and his team had spent an entire night compiling key concepts and likely exam topics specifically for Iris.
Knowing Professor Miles’s personality, Iris found it hard to imagine anyone persuading him to change his mind.
A faint smile touched her lips.
“Then thank Ares for me.”
She accepted the materials.
Over the past few days, she’d only managed to organize part of the content herself. With Professor Miles’s notes, the process would be far more efficient.
“And tell him I’ll look into his friend’s condition.”

Chapter 34 The Mock Test Result
Once the college entrance exam was over, she planned to examine the patient he’d mentioned.
After everything he’d done for her, it was the least she could do.
The students in Foundation Class gradually noticed a change.
Iris was studying.

Not obsessively. She wasn’t spending every waking hour buried in books like everyone else. But she was studying.
After watching her review for half a day, Sophie finally gave in to curiosity.
“Iris, why are you suddenly preparing for the exam?”
Everyone knew she already possessed knowledge well beyond the high school curriculum.
“I’m getting used to solving problems using standard high school methods,” Iris said. “And memorizing some of the liberal arts material.”
The science subjects weren’t the issue.
The challenge was adapting to the methods expected on the exam.
What truly stunned everyone, however, was her memory.
Classical literature passages that students normally spent months memorizing took Iris two readings.
Two.
After that, she could recite them perfectly.
Watching it happen felt less inspiring than demoralizing.
“Oh no,” someone groaned. “Iris is actually putting in effort.”

Chapter 94 The Mock Test Result
“We’re finished.”
“One hour of studying for her is worth a month for the rest of us.”
After the brief wave of despair passed, everyone returned to their own preparation.
The college entrance exam was only days away.

As the pressure mounted, Capital Preparatory Academy held its final mock examination.
Because Iris had rarely completed exams in the past, she’d been assigned to one of the lowest–ranked testing rooms.
Most of the students there had already given up academically. Their plans after graduation had little to do with college and everything to do with family connections.
Very few people bothered answering questions.
The proctor sat at the front of the room, struggling to stay awake.
Then something caught her eye.
A girl in the corner was actually writing.
Her dark hair was pinned up with a silver clip. Even in a standard school uniform, she carried herself with an effortless elegance that drew attention.
One hand supported her chin while the other moved steadily across the page.
She didn’t pause. Didn’t hesitate.
The teacher suppressed a scoff.
Filling an answer sheet with nonsense still earned zero points.
When the papers were collected, most students had turned in nearly blank exams. Several hadn’t shown up at all.

Only Iris’s answer sheet was completely filled.
The results were released quickly.

For students planning to take the college entrance exam, the final mock exam carried enormous weight. The questions were designed to mirror the real thing as closely as possible.
Chloe paid close attention as well.
She already expected to rank first.
What interested her far more was Iris’s score.
She wanted to know what all that studying had accomplished.
The senior class rankings were posted on the bulletin board before the individual class rankings were released.
Two friends helped clear a path through the crowd.
Chloe began scanning from the bottom.
She found Iris’s name immediately.
Last place.
Claire burst out laughing.
“Oh my God. She studied and somehow got worse?”
Every subject beside Iris’s name showed the same score.
Zero.
Since everyone knew she’d taken the exam, there were only two possibilities.
She had either scored zero across the board-
