Judging by Ms. Taylor’s stern expression, Iris assumed she was about to be marched into another exam room and forced to prove she hadn’t cheated.
Instead, Ms. Taylor studied her for a moment before her severe expression softened. The lines on her face relaxed, and she gave Iris an approving pat on the shoulder.
“Well done, Iris,” she said. “Keep this up, and getting into Capital University shouldn’t be a problem.”
Back in the classroom, Iris snapped a photo of the rankings and sent it to Vivian, Richard, and Eleanor.
Hopefully, it would put an end to their worries about her grades.
Across the room, Chloe sat staring at her desk. Even her favorite drink sat untouched.
She couldn’t stop thinking about the rankings.
First place.
For years, the top spot had belonged to either her or Hannah. Now Hannah had secured direct admission, and somehow Iris had appeared out of nowhere to claim it.
First place.
The more Chloe thought about it, the less sense it made.
Even if Iris had cheated…
Who could she possibly have copied from?
Seeing her unusually quiet, Claire turned around in her seat.
“Don’t let it get to you,” she said. “Maybe she got lucky. Or maybe she got the exam questions ahead of time.”

Then another thought occurred to her.
“Maybe she bought some kind of prediction materials.”
Prediction materials.

Chloe immediately thought of the colorful booklets Iris had been reading in the car over the past few days.
After school, Iris was reviewing them again.
Several were spread out on her desk.
From across the classroom, Chloe could clearly make out the covers.
Capital University’s emblem.
And in the corner, the logo of Professor Miles’s studio.
Everything clicked into place.
Chloe didn’t know much about academia, but she knew Professor Miles’s reputation. Years ago, he’d been involved in drafting college entrance exams. Even now, he helped revise high school textbooks.
If anyone could accurately predict exam content, it was him.
No wonder Iris’s scores had skyrocketed.
As long as she memorized those materials, anyone could improve.
Chloe stole another glance at the booklets.
If they could be bought…
Then she could buy them too.
That evening, Richard and Eleanor were so thrilled by Iris’s achievement that they took the

By coincidence, they chose the very restaurant Chloe had wanted to visit for months.
Richard hadn’t put much thought into it. The restaurant was popular, and Chloe had mentioned it before. Since Iris had done so well, it seemed like the perfect place for a family dinner.
But Chloe saw it differently.
She felt like the punchline of a joke.
So what if Iris ranked first once?
Her academic foundation was stronger.
Once she got her hands on those materials, she’d reclaim her place and become the top scorer on the actual college entrance exam.
Throughout dinner, Richard and Eleanor kept placing food onto Iris’s plate.
Chloe maintained a pleasant smile, but every gesture felt like salt in a wound.
The next morning, she took half a day off and headed straight to Capital University.
As the daughter of the country’s wealthiest family, she’d never imagined meeting a professor would be difficult.
After asking for directions several times, she finally found the building housing Professor
Miles’s office.
Just as she arrived, she spotted him approaching with another professor.
“…I’m serious,” the other man was saying. “That girl is extraordinary. You really should meet her sometime.”
Professor Miles chuckled.

“If you’re praising her this highly, then now I’m curious.”
“Professor Miles!”
Chloe hurried forward before they could enter the building.
“My name is Chloe Noir. I’m from the Noir family.”
Both professors stopped.

Professor Miles vaguely recognized the family name. He knew they were wealthy, and judging by her appearance, this girl was probably their daughter.

With that, he strode into his office.
