Chapter 97 Right Direction.
There hadn’t been enough time that morning.

After dealing with them, Iris had simply left them behind in the abandoned building. Still, someone needed to keep an eye on them and make sure they didn’t die before she got
answers.
Chloe sat silently on the other side of the car during the ride home.
She had already made up her mind. No matter what happened, she needed to pull herself together. If she kept spiraling like this, she wouldn’t even make it into Capital University.
A message from Zane arrived not long afterward.
[Boss, where did you leave them?]
[First floor of the abandoned building in West Capital.]
A few minutes later, Zane sent over a photo.
The sandy floor still showed obvious signs of the morning’s fight, but the captives were gone. Even the ropes Iris had used to tie them up had disappeared.
[Should we call the police?]
Iris frowned.
[No. Use our people to search first.]
Who had taken them?
The college entrance exam required both mental focus and physical stamina. Iris couldn’t afford to divide her attention between the exams and Mason’s disappearance.
The next day, after the second round of exams ended, another message arrived from Zane.
[Boss, we still can’t find them!]

“Stop looking for now,” Iris replied. “Wait until I finish the exams tomorrow.”

Aside from Mason, the other two men likely had accomplices. Anyone capable of avoiding her network’s search wasn’t an ordinary thug.
This was probably connected to the interests of some underground organization.
If she wanted answers, she would have to investigate personally.
After that incident, Chloe became noticeably more restrained. At the very least, she no longer dared provoke Iris.
When the final exam ended, Iris walked out of the testing center with the rest of the students.
Because she was taller than most, she quickly spotted the family driver’s car waiting in the distance.
Just as she was about to head over, something caught her eye.
Leaning casually against a nearby car was Ares.
The afternoon sunlight fell across his shoulders as he watched her approach, a faint smile playing on his lips. In his hands was a large bouquet of bright sunflowers.
“Get in,” he said. “I’ll take you somewhere.”
Curious, Iris followed him into the car.
Julian drove them to a secluded standalone villa on the eastern side of the city.
The courtyard had clearly been cleaned recently, but judging from the furniture and weathered exterior, no one had actually lived there in a very long time.
A narrow gravel path wound through the yard.

Distracted by her thoughts, Iris failed to notice one of the uneven stones beneath her feet. Her ankle twisted, and she stumbled sideways.
Before she could fall, a pair of warm hands caught her.
Ares steadied her effortlessly, then, just as naturally, kept hold of her hand.
“The path isn’t easy to walk on.”
The evening breeze carried a slight chill, but the warmth of his palm spread through her
skin.
For some reason, it reminded her of the sunflowers he’d brought earlier–bright, warm, and impossible to ignore.
The feeling was strange.
Unexpected.
Yet not entirely unwelcome.
For once, Iris didn’t pull away.
She simply allowed him to lead her toward the villa.
When they reached the entrance, Julian stepped forward and pushed open the doors.
Three people were sitting on the floor inside.
Bound tightly from head to toe.
Still in exactly the same miserable condition Iris had left them in.
Their mouths had been stuffed with cloth strips, and the moment they saw Iris and Ares walking in hand in hand, their eyes widened as though they’d seen ghosts.
Ares smiled.

“I originally planned to rescue you, but I arrived a little too late. Later, I caught them trying to escape, so I brought them back for you. Now that your exams are over, you can decide what to do with them.”
No wonder her people/had never been able to find them.
Iris crouched down in front of Mason and pulled the cloth from his mouth.
His face was pale with fear.
Even speaking seemed difficult.
He truly hadn’t expected Iris to be this terrifying.
Those two men had been professionals, yet she’d taken them down effortlessly.
And the man standing beside her…
Just looking at Ares brought back the nightmare of that day.
“Did Chloe put you up to this?” Iris asked.
Mason immediately thought of Chloe’s gentle voice on the phone that night.
Even now, he couldn’t bring himself to betray the girl he liked.
“N–No.” He shook his head frantically. “It was me. I wanted to kill you. You put me in the hospital for so long, and you sent my dad to prison. My family’s ruined because of you. As soon as I get discharged, I’ll be heading straight to jail myself.”
Iris stared at him for a few seconds, her expression unreadable.
Then she stuffed the cloth back into his mouth.
The remaining two men were staring at Ares in complete disbelief.
