Natalie nestled into me, her touch feather-light, accompanied by the gentle cadence of her breathing and a subtle, captivating scent. For an instant, my body went rigid, but I soon relaxed and murmured her

name. No answer came.

On the screen, a ghost was in hot pursuit, the protagonist fleeing in terror. Without hesitation, I reached over and silenced the TV, not wanting the slightest sound to rouse her from her peaceful slumber.

The room was filled only with the distant hum of the city outside and the steady rhythm of her breathing. Natalie slept soundly in my arms, as trusting as a young cub in its mother’s arms.

Looking down at her serene face, I felt a cold, hard part of my heart begin to thaw. I held the position until the first light of dawn. Then, with utmost care, I carried her back to the bedroom.

Natalie’s POV:

Waking up the next morning, I found myself cocooned in soft sheets. Memories of the previous night washed over me. I recalled snuggling up with Leonardo on the couch to watch a movie, and a blush crept onto my cheeks. The movie plot had faded, but the sense of comfort and safety I’d felt with him by my side was as vivid as ever.

I tiptoed out of the bedroom and was startled to see Leonardo curled up on the living-room sofa, fast asleep. He’d stayed! His shirt collar was slightly ajar, and a thin blanket barely covered his large frame. The sofa was clearly too small for his six-foot-plus Alpha build.

“Mr. Sanchez…” I knelt beside the sofa and whispered, a twinge of regrét in my voice. I should’ve offered him the guest room. He’d just wrapped up days of work, and I wasn’t sure if he was fully over his illness.

His breathing was slow and even. Before I knew it, I’d reached out and gently brushed my fingertips across his thick, drooping eyelashes.

The moment I touched him, his lashes fluttered, and his eyes slowly opened. They were hazy at first, but › as they focused on me, they darkened, like a forest at dusk.

“Peeping?” Leonardo’s voice was deep and rough, with a hint of amusement. It wasn’t really a question.

I tried to yank my hand back, but he was quicker. He covered my wrist with his hand, holding it gently but firmly. “No need to be shy,” he added. “You were so into it.”

“Why’d you sleep on the sofa last night?” I asked, trying to steer the conversation in a different direction.

“Just exhausted. I thought I’d rest a bit and ended up dozing off.” Leonardo sat up, the blanket sliding off to reveal his shoulders. “Mind if I use your bathroom to clean up? And…” Leonardo paused, looking towards the kitchen. “I’m starving. Do I have the honor of having breakfast with you?”

“Sure thing.” I nodded and got up to fetch a fresh towel for him.

Shortly after, Leonardo emerged from the bathroom, and I’d managed to whip up a simple breakfast:

Sunlight streamed through the apartment windows and onto the dining table. We sat across from each

. other, eating in silence. For a moment, I felt as if we’d already completed the Moon Goddess’ vow and were

living a normal life as mates. This peaceful moment made me long for more.

Leonardo said quietly, his words though calm sending ripples through my heart, “After our bonding, I’d love to have breakfast with you every morning.”

“Sounds great,” I replied without thinking. Even though our marriage had started as a practical arrangement, with Leonardo, it seemed like it could be something special.

Right after breakfast, Leonardo took a call. I watched as he struggled with the top button of his shirt. Before I realized it, I’d gotten up and helped him fasten it.

His eyes flickered for a split second. After ending the call, he leaned in close to my ear. The warmth of his breath caressed my skin. “The movie last night was a real gem. Next time, when you’re up for it, we can finish it together.”

“Seriously? You actually liked it?” I blurted out, taken aback. He wasn’t typically into those artsy romance flicks.

“Yeah, it was pretty interesting. I mean, the story and the characters, they really got me thinking.” He offered a few low-key insights into the plot twists and the characters’ drives, clearly showing he’d been fully engaged. That made a little flutter of happiness stir inside me.

“Sounds good to me,” I said with a grin.

“What about those scary bits? Aren’t you afraid anymore?” he asked, referring to the hair-raising parts of the movie.

“With you around, what’s there to be scared of?” I tilted my chin up/slightly, unconsciously showing a hint of dependence. “You’re way more reliable than any amulet.”

Hearing that, Leonardo let out a soft laugh. The sound was so nice it made my heart do a little somersault. His Alpha presence wrapped around me like a warm blanket, making me feel safe and secure.

“Time for me to head out.” He reached the door and then turned to face me. “Thanks for the breakfast. It hit the spot.”

“Sure thing.” I gave a little nod. As he turned to leave, on a whim, I reached out and gently grabbed his wrist. My fingers brushed across his palm for a moment before I let go. It was a natural werewolf move to show closeness.

He stopped in his tracks and looked back at me. There was a hint of longing in his eyes. “I’ll swing by later tonight,” he said casually, as if it was a no-brainer.

Only after his figure vanished around the corner of the elevator did I snap out of it. I gave myself a little pat on the cheek. Even though Leonardo was amazing, I had to keep my wits about me and not let myself get carried away.
