Natalie’s POV:
Lily let me check her forehead, then bit her lip.

“I know, Natalie,” she said, clearing her throat. Her expression was more resolute now. “I’ve thought about it seriously. Someone like Samuel… he might be useful. He’s only temporarily left the Scott Group. He probably won’t leave you alone.”
“You want to use Samuel?” My opinion of Lily was changing, but I immediately objected. “I know you want to help, but not this way… I can handle Samuel alone. He’s not someone to
mess with.”
Plus, Samuel had a well-known playboy reputation. Even if Lily went in planning to outsmart him, it was hard to say who would end up getting hurt.
“I don’t want you fighting alone,” Lily said, her mind made up. “I don’t have to get too close. But since he’s interested in me, I can engage with him. Find his weaknesses, gather information, and…”
She hesitated, as if holding something back.
“And what?” I asked.
“And I hate him. I want to see him ruined, too.” A sudden viciousness crept into Lily’s voice.
I was startled. I hadn’t realized how much hatred Lily had built up over Samuel’s bullying. But I understood-Samuel had gone too far. A young girl like Lily shouldn’t have to endure that kind of humiliation.
“Lily, don’t worry. I’ll deal with Samuel for you. But you can’t easily hurt someone like him. Getting tangled with a scumbag will only hurt you in the end,” I took her hand, trying to comfort her.
But no matter how much I tried to persuade her, Lily was determined. “Natalie, I know you mean well. But trust me, I’ll be careful. You’ve already done so much for me. I told you this so you wouldn’t misunderstand. No matter how close I seem to get to Samuel, I’m always on your side!”
Maybe afraid I’d keep arguing, Lily bowed slightly after speaking and hurried out.
I couldn’t stop her. I just felt helpless.

Chapter 232 Pull Through
Why did she have to get involved with Samuel?

At least Samuel wasn’t at the Scott Group recently, so there was no immediate need to worry. But Lily’s stubbornness reminded me of my own. Trying to talk her out of it was probably pointless.
Just as I was feeling frustrated, my phone buzzed.
My heart sank, hoping it was Leonardo. But the caller ID showed Matthew.
I answered. Matthew said he was near the company and asked to meet for lunch. He wouldn’t seek me out for no reason. Something was up.
Sure enough, when I arrived at the reserved private dining room, I saw him smoking on the balcony outside. Matthew rarely smoked. He was big on health. I’d seen a whole wall of wellness books at his place once. He even hired a private nutritionist to teach his household staff. Even his cleaning lady could talk knowledgeably about health.
“Hello, Uncle Matthew,” I greeted him.
He quickly put out his cigarette and turned with a smile. “You’re here. Come and sit.”
After some small talk, he warmly urged me to order. I had little appetite and only picked two dishes. Matthew waved his hand and added many specialties before ending the order.
“You needed to see me about something?” I asked.
Matthew hesitated. His smile faded as he nodded. “Let’s talk after we eat.”
“If you don’t tell me, I won’t be able to eat anyway. Better to say it now.” I looked him in the
eye.
My voice was calm, but a nervous flutter started in my chest.
Matthew glanced at the server nearby. Once they left, he lowered his voice. “How are things with the Sanchez family now?”
Mention of the Sanchez family made my expression change. “What are you trying to say?”
Seeing my tension, Matthew said, “Actually, I just caught wind of this. I wasn’t sure if I should tell you… With the Scott Group’s new drug about to launch, I was afraid you might act rashly.”
“What’s going on?” I pressed.
The bad feeling in my gut grew stronger. My voice trembled slightly, nearly losing its

composure.
Matthew took a breath, his voice even quieter. “It’s Leonardo, He’s had an accident.”
My body swayed. My hand shot out to brace against the table. I held my breath, waiting for him to continue.
“What… What happened to him?” I asked.
Matthew couldn’t meet my eyes. He sighed, “He was seriously injured in a mountain accident. His condition isn’t good. If he doesn’t pull through, I’m worried about your marriage alliance…”
“What do you mean, ‘doesn’t pull through”?” I cut him off, my voice shaking.
The moment I heard “Leonardo” and “accident,” a rush of blood pounded in my head, making it impossible to think.
Samuel’s POV:
That afternoon, I was already waiting by the entrance when Penelope returned from outside. She glanced at me, signaled for her accompanying assistant to leave, then handed me her handbag and coat.
“Is it done?” she asked.
“It’s done. Just as you predicted, the Sanchez family should have heard the news by now,” I replied in a low voice.
