“I understand…” I could barely catch my breath.

I took several deep breaths, but tears kept streaming down my cheeks. How much must it have hurt to be hit by a boulder like that? Remembering what Miranda had told me, I felt like my nerves were snapping.

Even at a time like that, he was worried about me. How could I possibly be angry with him?

“Natalie, the doctors say he’s stable now. The internal bleeding has stopped. The spinal injury isn’t too severe. He should wake up soon.” Miranda paused, seeing my poor state, and tried to comfort me with only the positive news.

“Miranda, can I stay with him alone for a while?” I gazed at Leonardo, my voice barely a whisper.

Miranda nodded, signaling for Aaron and the others to leave the room first. She gave my shoulder a gentle pat before leaving last.

The room was quiet, with just the two of us.

The trip here felt endless. I desperately wanted to rush to his side and see for myself that he was okay. But now that I was here, I was almost afraid to get close.

I stood frozen for a long time before finally walking to Leonardo’s bedside. I carefully took his large hand in mine. His palm was always so warm, but now it felt frighteningly cold.

I traced his knuckles and saw the bruised veins from IV injections. My heart ached again.

“You told me to wait for you. How could you break your promise without a word?” I whispered, my voice choked with sobs.

I gently touched his forehead. Bandages covered his brows,

I murmured, “Don’t be afraid. No matter how long it takes, I’ll wait for you. I’ll stay with you.”

I slowly rested my head against Leonardo’s shoulder and closed my eyes.

Victoria’s POV:

At that moment, I arrived outside the hospital room.

Seeing so many people guarding the door, my heart sank. The Sanchez family had arrived late last night and had been keeping vigil. Leonardo was out of critical danger, so I had gone back to rest briefly, as it wasn’t appropriate for me to stay in the room constantly.

“How is Leonardo? Is he awake?” I asked Aaron, moving to enter the room before I even finished speaking. He raised a hand to stop me.

“Mr. Sanchez hasn’t woken up yet, but… Mr. Sanchez’s wife is here. There’s no need for you to worry about him,” he said.

“You mean… Natalie is here?” I was stunned. Didn’t Leonardo order the news to be sealed? Even the Sanchez family had only just found out. They didn’t seem like they were going to tell Natalie. How did she get here so quickly?

Aaron’s expression was cool and firm. “Yes, Ms. Anderson is inside. Please leave, Ms. Thompson.”

A flicker of desolation passed through my eyes. My lips moved, but I said nothing more. I was still holding the nourishing food I’d brought for Leonardo, hoping he’d wake up today and see me first.

But Natalie was here. My hope was gone.

I was about to leave, dejected, when the door opened.

“Ms. Thompson.” Natalie walked straight out.

The moment our eyes met, I felt a pang of guilt and immediately looked away. “Natalie, Leonardo’s condition isn’t great. Please take good care of him.” As I spoke, I looked down and handed her the items I was carrying.

Aaron immediately tried to intervene. But Natalie calmly took them.

“I’ll accept your concern on behalf of my Alpha,” Natalie said, smiling slightly but without any warmth. “However, taking care of him is my duty as his mate. That’s not something you need to worry

about.”

I thought Natalie would at least question me a little. Instead, she treated my presence as utterly ordinary. Was she really that trusting of Leonardo? Even after seeing the news I had leaked, she wasn’t shaken at all?

My self-respect was wounded again. But I had no energy to deal with it now. I just took one last look at Leonardo through the doorway, then turned and left without another word.

After Victoria left, Aaron immediately explained that she was there as a charity representative for the project and that Leonardo hadn’t been aware of her involvement beforehand.

I just nodded. My expression was unreadable, as if I cared, yet also as if it didn’t matter at all.

Aaron quickly took the items from my hands. “Ms. Anderson, let me handle these.”

I didn’t stop him. The food was still warm. Leonardo wasn’t awake, and it would be a waste to just throw it away.

By evening, Fiona arrived at the hospital room.

Since arriving, I hadn’t left Leonardo’s side. I hadn’t eaten properly or even had much water. Fiona had specially brought some warm food, hoping I’d take a break.

Seeing Fiona and Miranda, I quickly hid the sadness in my eyes and made an effort to eat. But I had no appetite at all. I only managed a few bites before I couldn’t eat anymore.

Fiona didn’t say much. She just held my hand, offering silent reassurance.

A doctor came to check Leonardo’s temperature and injuries. I watched the whole time anxiously, studying the doctor’s expression. When the doctor lifted Leonardo’s eyelids, the sight of his pale, unresponsive eyes was heartbreaking.

“How is he?” Fiona couldn’t wait any longer and asked first.

The doctor replied calmly, “No need to worry. His temperature is normal. The wounds still show some inflammation. We’ll change his dressings shortly.”

“Then why hasn’t he woken up yet?” Miranda asked quietly.
