“But… I’ve already violated my grandfather’s will.” My newfound hope faltered as I remembered the crucial issue.
“I am the trustee,” my grandmother said, looking me straight in the eye. “As long as you make a clean, public break with Aaliyah and dissolve the contract, I can transfer the fund to you in full compliance.” Her words made my resolve waver once more.
My mother said it, and now my grandmother was saying it, too. Maybe breaking the bond truly was the only way out, for the survival of the pack and that billion-dollar lifeline.
“Louisa, this is too much!” A sharp, tearful shout cut through our conversation.
Before I could respond, the door was flung open. Aaliyah stormed in, her eyes red and swollen. Her voice was choked and raw. Her body trembled with rage and sorrow. “I’ve put up with this for years, and now your whole family gangs up on my son and me? Did you think I’ve had it easy since the Richardson family fell apart?”
Aaliyah’s POV:
I waited for Landon all night. I even sent him messages apologizing, but he didn’t reply to a single one. I couldn’t sleep a wink.
Hearing voices in the hallway, I came out to talk to him, only to see him follow Louisa into the study.
I pressed my ear to the door to listen. That was when I heard Louisa’s penetrating voice, pressuring Landon to break our bond!
Servants rushed over, trying to stop me, but I was too upset. No one was going to hold me back.
Louisa’s face turned grim. She pressed her lips together and said to Landon, “It’s your decision. You know the family’s situation better than I do.” Then she straightened her spine and moved to leave the study.
Seeing her go, I tried to rush after her to vent my anger. Landon wrapped his arms around me and forcibly dragged me back to our bedroom. An Alpha’s strength was something I couldn’t fight.
“She’s an elder! The senior she-wolf of the pack! What were you going to do? Attack her because she said something you didn’t like? My father is still in the hospital. Do you also want to send my grandmother there?” Landon’s harsh words left me utterly helpless. Tear’s streamed down my face uncontrollably. It turned out that when I reached a point of extreme grief and injustice, I couldn’t even speak.
Seeing me like this, Landon’s expression softened with pity. He turned and handed me a handkerchief. “Here,” he said, his voice unconsciously gentler.
I keenly caught that flicker of compassion in his eyes. I immediately grabbed his hand, holding it tight. “Please, Landon… Don’t break the bond. I really love you. For you, I’ve burned all my bridges. I can’t return to the Cooper family.”

Landon’s POV:
I sighed. Even though I had already made my choice, saying the words out loud to her felt unbearably cruel.
Seeing my silence, she panicked. “You’re really going to do this to me?”
“The Richardson Group desperately needs that fund right now,” I said, my throat tight. I couldn’t look her in the eye.
A tear slid down the corner of Aaliyah’s mouth. She let out a strange, bitter laugh. “Is it for the fund, or is it for Natalie?” She knew me too well. I wanted both the fund and Natalie. Right now, I couldn’t even muster the energy to lie to her.
“I’m sorry,” I said, closing my eyes. A heavy wave of guilt washed over me. From the moment I went to beg Natalie, things between Aaliyah and me were already over for good.
I said, “I’ll make it up to you. Whatever you want.”
“Make it up to me?” Aaliyah snorted coldly, the last light fading from her eyes.
Aaliyah’s POV:
Was it that the harder I tried to hold onto something, the more I lost it? Or was this my punishment?
Memories suddenly flooded back, uncontrollable. When I was twenty, studying away from home, I got into huge debts because of my vanity. Too scared to tell my parents the truth, I secretly took a job as a server at an upscale werewolf nightclub. Being a rare, well-educated Omega college girl there, I was introduced to a very wealthy, older werewolf gentleman.
At first, I just drank and chatted with him, nothing more. But he came almost every day and was incredibly generous. I couldn’t resist. Before long, the old gentleman straightforwardly asked me to name my price. He said it would be his last time seeing me, and he wanted one perfect night.
I knew what that meant. After a fierce internal struggle, I gave in.
It was a one-time transaction. I thought that was the end of it, that we’d never see each other again. Little did I know it was just a cruel joke fate was playing on me.
Not long after that, I met Landon, I was drawn to his youthful energy and charm. I fell for him hopelessly at first sight. Landon was handsome and refined on the outside, but selfish and even narcissistic at his core.
him. I knew he wasn’t a good man, but it only fueled my desire to conquer
I was spoiled growing up. The harder something was to get, the more I wanted it. To be with him, I used every trick, researched his preferences, and even lied. I became the elusive shadow he was searching for.
