Anna was so unreliable. She met Louisa and me at the entrance, but the security guards wouldn’t let us in, saying Anna and James had their memberships revoked.

We’d just heard why-Anna and Natalie had gotten into a fight outside.

James was impatient with our concern. He cut straight to the point. “Aaliyah, are you here representing Landon?”

“This has nothing to do with Landon,” Aaliyah replied. “I’m here for myself. I’m going to start a company in Maritime City soon.”

“Gallop Energy is opening a branch in Maritime City,” I said calmly. “And I’m the project lead, as well as the head of the new office.”

Then, I slowly turned my gaze to Louisa. She thought she could force Landon and me to break our bond just because she controlled the family fund.

Well, I had Gallop Energy behind me now. If Landon wanted to turn things around for Thorn Pack, wouldn’t he want another ally?

Grace snatched the invitation from my hand and checked it over. She glanced awkwardly at Louisa, whose face had gone pale.

It seemed she finally understood. I was no longer a woman clinging to Thorn Pack-I had climbed my way up to a far greater power.

Anna didn’t grasp Gallop Energy’s significance, but she sensed the tension and unusually kept quiet. She tugged James’ sleeve and commanded, “Alright, Aaliyah, since you can get in, take us with you. James’ boss is already inside.”

I pressed my lips together and didn’t answer right away. Instead, I checked my watch.

“I have to go. My friend is waiting for me inside,” I said. “Your arrival wasn’t planned, so I can’t bring you in.” With that, I turned to leave.

As I did, I heard Anna’s furious voice behind me. “Aaliyah, are you turning your back on us now?”

I stopped and looked back. This time, I didn’t hide the chill in my eyes.

“Wasn’t it your family who turned their backs first?” I stared straight at Louisa.

This once-high-and-mighty elder of the pack was now just a scrawny old she-wolf-patchy fur, loose fangs.

“If you want a favor,” I said quietly, “you should at least ask properly.”
