Chapter 307 I Misunderstood
Chloe’s POV:
Just as the elevator doors were about to close, Liam suddenly stepped out after me.

“Chloe!” His voice sounded in the hallway, clearer than it had been in the elevator and carrying a different
tone.
I turned around. “Yeah?”
He walked over to me in a few strides. His gaze fell on the heavy bag in my hand, and his brow furrowed almost imperceptibly. “Why so much coffee? Getting it for others?” His tone held a hint of disapproval. “Remember, you’re here to work, not to run errands.”
I was about to explain, but before I could speak, his two well-trained assistants had already deftly taken the bag from me. “I’ll take that, Ms. Kelly.”
“Actually, I’m not…” I started, but Liam cut me off, saying to me, “Come on. I’ll walk with you to deliver them.”
Liam’s POV:
Watching Chloe walk out of the elevator lugging that huge, heavy bag of coffee, and thinking about how she’d almost gotten knocked over earlier, a sudden impulse came over me.
Chloe was stubborn and not exactly easy to like. She had terrible people skills, all tough talk but actually prone to getting taken advantage of. Now that she was finally working here at the Scott Group-which was effectively my territory—and Natalie couldn’t look out for her all the time, I felt obligated to smooth the path a little for her, to make sure she didn’t get pushed around.
Chloe’s POV:
“No, Liam, it’s not what you think. I offered to buy the coffee myself…” Liam wasn’t listening to my explanation.
When we entered the R&D department, colleagues were gathered in the lounge area having lunch together. Liam’s appearance, combined with the fact that he was with me, instantly drew everyone’s attention. The air filled with scents of curiosity, scrutiny, and hidden excitement.
A senior employee who recognized Liam immediately stood up. “Mr. Liam Scott! What brings you here?” Liam had interned in R&D when he was younger, brought in by Alexander.
“Just stopping by,” Liam said flatly. He signaled for his assistant to distribute the coffees. Then his eyes swept over the group before landing back on me.
He raised his voice slightly. “Chloe is new. It’s not easy for her to carry all this alone. I happened to run into her, so I helped bring it up. Let’s all be considerate of the new person going forward. If you need something done, maybe send someone with her.”
The lounge area went quiet for a few seconds after his words. Colleagues exchanged looks, expressions turning understanding. The way they looked at me became more complicated.

Chapter 307 I Misunderstood

Quickly, someone caught on and laughed nervously, “Of course! Thank you for your concern, Mr. Liam Scott.”
My face burned-not from shyness, but from embarrassment and a touch of frustrated anger at the misunderstanding.
“Liam,” I blurted out, forgetting formalities, “nobody asked me to bring these. I’m treating everyone. And… they didn’t make me carry it all alone. I insisted.” I spoke faster, trying to clear things up.
The R&D team had been genuinely good to me. Maybe because Natalie had put in a word, or maybe the department was just like this. On my first day, they gave me thoughtful little gifts, patiently walked me through procedures, and treated me like a little sister. I was not good at being mushy, but I wanted to pay them back.
Noticing they often ordered coffee in the afternoons, I offered to treat them. They were too políte to accept, so I went and bought it secretly, figuring they couldn’t refuse if I carried it up myself. I never expected to run into Liam and create this whole misunderstanding.
When I finished, a flicker of embarrassment crossed Liam’s face, too. “I see…” he said, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Sorry. I misunderstood.”
“It’s alright. Mr. Liam Scott was just showing concern for a subordinate,” a colleague skilled at smoothing things over chimed in quickly. “Chloe bought plenty. Would you like a cup?”
“No need. I have things to attend to. Carry on,” Liam said. He turned and left almost hastily, his assistants scurrying after him.
A friendly female colleague nudged me, pressed a coffee cup into my hand, and whispered, her eyes sparkling, “Go ahead! Mr. Liam Scott clearly cares about you. Go thank him properly!”
I hesitated, but they gave me a gentle push. Resigned, I took the coffee and hurried after him. Behind me, I could hear suppressed whispers of excitement, light laughter, and murmurs.
A man said, “Mr. Liam Scott is truly devoted, isn’t he? Wow, he’s head over heels. He can’t even stand her carrying coffee!”
Another man stated, “So Chloe is the one Mr. Liam Scott has never been able to forget!”
“Are we in for some good office drama now?” a woman asked.
Another woman smiled, “With Chloe in our department, we’ll have front-row seats!”
I caught up to Liam and shoved the coffee into his hand. “Here. This one’s extra. It’ll go to waste if you don’t take it,” I said flatly. “Besides, if I didn’t bring it to you, they’d think I have no social graces.” I was being brutally direct.
