“Take it back! Right now!” I managed through coughs, my throat burning as I glanced at Natalie urgently.

“Didn’t you ask me to help you?” Natalie blinked.”

“I was talking about the coffee! It’s too bitter!” I was about to lose it.

My words made Natalie’s ears turn red as she realized her mistake. I took her phone, fumbling to find the voice message, and quickly hit recall. Staring at the screen, waiting for a possible reply from Chloe, those few seconds felt like an eternity. Thankfully, there was no response.

“She’s… probably busy. She didn’t see it,” Natalie said with an awkward laugh, trying to lighten the mood.

I looked at the “message recalled” notice in the chat for a long moment without speaking. A confusing mix of emotions rose in me-annoyance, regret, and a hint of… hidden disappointment. My face probably didn’t look great, which was unusual for someone known for a calm temper. Natalie stood by like a scolded child, not daring to make a sound.

After a while, I finally handed her phone back, my voice steady again. If she asks…”

“I’ll fix it! I’ll tell her I sent it by mistake-either that, or it was a joke!” Natalie promised right away.

I nodded, quickly getting my emotions under control. With Chloe’s personality, even if she saw it, she’d probably just ignore it or scoff. Why should I care?

My main reason for meeting Natalie was to finalize our previous agreement, formally transferring 5% of the Scott Group shares to her. I’d also discussed with my father recently about deepening our collaboration with her. The other pack industries my father managed had struggled in recent years. Only the export project I ran had ståyed steady, but to expand, we needed solid allies.

With the backing of Leonardo’s Silver-Maned Pack and her own growing capabilities, Natalie was an ideal partner. Moon-Shadowed Pack had many ventures, but they often operate independently, sometimes hindering each other. Natalie had wanted to consolidate resources for a while, so our interests aligned.

After finishing our business discussion, Natalie asked me about her upcoming trip to Mervia to see our grandfather next week. She wanted to know his temperament and preferences. I told her he was strict but fair, and wouldn’t deliberately make things hard for her. Bringing some high-quality coffee beans or art as a gesture of respect would be fine-he lacked for nothing. He was actually decent to us, the younger generation, always giving generous gifts and rarely scolding us harshly.

Natalie also asked about the old conflict between her father and our grandfather. I really didn’t know the details. The older generation’s grudges were rarely explained to us.

Finally, she asked casually, “There’s no bad blood between our Moon-Shadowed Pack and Silver-Maned Pack, right?”

I was a little surprised. “Silver-Maned Pack?”

She nodded.

I thought for a moment. “Before you showed up, as far as I know, there wasn’t much interaction between our packs. Silver-Maned Pack holds a unique status. Our business dealings rarely overlapped. Leonardo and his father also rarely appeared in Maritime City’s business circles.”

“Why do you ask?” She seemed to have something on her mind.

Natalie smiled, “It’s nothing. Just feeling a little nervous. Penelope will be there with Grandpa. I’m worried she’ll give me a hard time.”

“Should I go with you?” I offered. “I should be free next week.”

“Forget it. It hasn’t been that long since your last trip back from Mervia. I’m afraid you might…” She gave a light, teasing smile.

I let out a resigned sigh. But before leaving, I looked at her seriously and said, “Natalie, no matter what, don’t worry-Moon-Shadowed Pack is still your home.” My tone was calm and gentle, but I hoped it would give her some strength.

She clearly understood. She gave a firm nod, her eyes visibly moved.

Natalie’s POV:

After seeing Liam out, I leaned back in my office chair and let out a soft sigh. That mix-up earlier was really… I rubbed my temples, feeling both amused and embarrassed at myself.

I gathered my thoughts and the documents Liam brought. The information I just got from him matched what Matthew told me before. It seemed Matthew wasn’t hiding anything from me. Vincent probably just wanted to see me alone.

Liam’s last words felt very warm. “Moon-Shadowed Pack is still your home.” Yes, blood ties couldn’t be severed. My father left me not just an inheritance, but this vast, complex family network. I needed to learn how to stand within it and find my place.

After tidying my office, I left work early. Starting today, I would be on leave. I would spend a few days at home with Leonardo first, then set off for Mervia to meet Vincent.

Roger, Fiona, and Miranda were coming over for dinner tonight, and I planned to cook. To keep me from getting too tired, Leonardo had the servants prepare all the ingredients beforehand. All I really had to do was stir-fry and season.

But even so, Leonardo still worried. He sent me a message right on time before I even left the office, “Decided on the menu yet?”

I was just thinking about which of my specialty dishes to tell him when I looked up and saw Samuel leaning against Lily’s workstation.
