Chapter 340 Pay Me Back
Lily’s POV:
“How impressive!” Before Josiah could finish his tirade, Samuel even started clapping, a look of exaggerated “fear” on his face.
I knew he was trying to provoke them. I gave him a cold look. “Samuel, Harry has his SAT soon.
I need to resolve this. It’s important.” If he was going to help, fine. But if he made things worse, I’d be the first one to smack him.
He ignored my warning and instead motioned for Harry. “Harry, come here.”
Harry glanced at me. I instinctively moved to stop him, but Harry walked over himself.
“Did you hit him on purpose?” Samuel asked.
Harry said, “No. I was trying to stop him.”
“Did anyone call the police?” Samuel asked again.
Harry shook his head. He explained there had been no police. After Ellis was hurt, Delilah and Josiah had immediately taken him to the school administration office. They made terrible threats about expelling him and ruining our family. He was still scared.
“Looks like you want to settle this privately. Should I call the police, then?” Samuel smiled, looking at me and giving a little wink.
I caught on immediately. “Yes, call them. I’ll pay thirty thousand dollars at most. Three hundred thousand dollars? Let the police sort it out.”
Hearing this, before Delilah and Josiah could speak, Ezra panicked. He pulled me aside and whispered urgently. He said the Davidson family was friends with the school board. Involving the police would hurt the school’s reputation.
Even if Ellis was implicated, the Davidson family had more resources than we did to smooth things over. As long as Harry stayed at this school, we’d be the ones to suffer in the end.
I was actually hesitant, too. A direct confrontation now would force Harry to change schools. Disrupting his studies or his SAT… the cost was too high for us.
Samuel seemed to see my hesitation. “Just call the police. Then I’ll contact some media friends I know. We can give this school’s ‘problematic environment’ some nice publicity.” His tone was flat but carried undeniable weight.
“With grades like that, a student this good belongs in the best schools in Maritime City. A place like Jorvikhold City, even its best school, isn’t good enough.” Samuel finished speaking just as Delilah picked up his card. She saw the name-Maritime City Scott Pharmaceutical Group. Her eyes nearly bulged out of her head.
Their arrogant bluster vanished instantly. The color drained from their faces, replaced by shock and fear. Scott Pharmaceutical Group was one of the top pharmaceutical conglomerates in the werewolf world, a core industry of the Moon-Shadowed Pack. To them, it was an unreachable, towering giant.
Samuel completely ignored them. He said to me, “Harry needs to change schools.”
I looked at him and said calmly, “Mr. Scott, I have nothing to offer you in exchange,” I knew Samuel would help me. Tonight, I hadn’t been completely passive. Half of my reaction was real, and half was an act.
After years of being Harry’s sister, I was no longer a defenseless pushover. If someone bullied my brother, I wouldn’t just take it.
The SAT was important, but making Harry swallow his pride wasn’t necessary either.
My show of hesitation was partly to see how Samuel would react. As long as he was by my side, he couldn’t remain completely unaffected.
It seemed he was more susceptible to playing the hero than I’d thought.
Samuel looked down at Harry, who was gazing up at him with bright eyes. He smiled, “Don’t worry. I’m not going to blackmail you. I’m helping Harry this time. Harry, you can pay me back when you’re older.”
