I smiled and said, “It’s nothing, just some personal stuff.”

Even though I tried hard to suppress it, the restless aura of an Alpha still leaked through— enough for the others to notice.

Landon said, “Mr. Scott, if you have something urgent to attend to, please don’t let us keep you. You’ve already been exceedingly hospitable today.”

Aaliyah nodded in agreement. “Yes, Mr. Scott, don’t worry about us.”

Still, I insisted it was fine. But for the rest of the dinner, my mind was somewhere else.

Only after the meal ended and I politely said goodbye to both of them did I finally hurry over to Lily’s place.

My bodyguard had called earlier to say that Lily had been taken away by force.

And the one who took her was Chloe.

She’d trailed us without a sound. My men were holding Lily in a hotel owned by the Watson family. Chloe actually dared to call the police, break in with them, and take Lily away.

Now my guys were being held at the station, waiting for me to deal with it. Not that I was worried about that-a few phone calls would clear up a minor issue like this. What really pissed me off was that Chloe got away with Lily.

Did Chloe have nothing better to do? Her pack was nothing but a small family. How dare she interfere in my business?

It was late. I couldn’t just storm into the Kelly family’s territory to demand Lily’s back. I had no connection to the Grayclaw Pack. Making a scene might hurt Chloe, but it would also drag me into trouble. Besides, Chloe held no real sway in the Kelly family-there was no way she’d take Lily there.

But emotionally, I couldn’t shake my anger. When had I ever been this good to a woman? I knew she was Natalie’s person, yet I’d looked out for her again and again. When some idiot harassed her, I stepped in. When her brother got into trouble, I drove for hours to help.

Any ordinary werewolf from a modest background would’ve been grateful-would’ve thrown herself at me by now.

So why was Lily so unmoved?
