Three hours ago, Chloe got me out of that hotel room.

Samuel was really cunning. He used the excuse of taking me home to test me, then took the chance to hold me. His wariness meant the people he was meeting today were crucial—and he definitely didn’t want Natalie finding out beforehand.

When Natalie got my call, though, she sounded calm. It was as if she’d already expected Penelope and Samuel would make a move while she was away from Moon-Shadowed Pack.

She actually comforted me, told me not to worry too much, and said she and Leonardo would be back in Maritime City tomorrow afternoon.

“The Scott Group and the Thorn Pack can’t possibly be collaborating.” Natalie’s voice came through the phone, carrying a calm strength. “If Landon and Aaliyah are tangled up with Samuel, it has to be about a work project. Lily, I’m authorizing you-go back to the office tonight and look into the projects Samuel’s handling, especially anything with a signing scheduled for tomorrow.”

Before heading home, Chloe and I went back to the Scott Group. Using the access Natalie gave me, we finally found it: the Scott Group was about to sign a major cooperation agreement with Gallop Energy. And the representative from Gallop Energy was none other than Aaliyah.

The signing was set for tomorrow morning.

“Aaliyah… someone with no real work experience for years, chosen as Gallop Energy’s representative? That’s not normal,” Natalie said over the phone, puzzled.

But that very strangeness made Natalie think of something. She asked me, “Lily, can you try to get a look at the specific data files for that project? Especially the part Aaliyah is responsible for.”

“I’ll try, Natalie,” I answered.

Aaliyah and Natalie’s areas of business overlapped heavily. If Gallop Energy’s new project were given to Aaliyah, she’d be handling the core data modules. If I could get that data…

My thoughts snapped back to the present. I had to get that data, and right now, the only possible path was through Samuel.

I knew this Alpha’s work habits-he always carried important project files with him. That cooperation plan with Gallop Energy had to be on his phone right now.

“Is following Natalie really that worth it, Lily?” Samuel’s voice cut into my thoughts.

I really couldn’t understand it. Natalie wasn’t even Lily’s real sister-just some gratitude for giving her a chance. How could that compare to what power, money, and status could offer in

life?

Lily responded quietly, “Is following Mrs. Penelope Scott and hurting others without any benefit really that worth it, Mr. Scott?”

I let out a scoff. “Penelope is my mother. Besides, she has her own position. Opposing Natalie- in your eyes, that’s ‘hurting others without any benefit”?”

“Moon-Shadowed Pack doesn’t belong to just one person. I believe if you and Mrs. Penelope Scott were willing, everyone could coexist peacefully.” As she spoke, Lily turned and went into the bedroom to change the sheets.

Watching her busy herself, I felt an unexpected warmth. I’d grown up in comfort, right from childhood. At home, servants always made my bed. But once my memories were clear, no family member ever did this for me again.

Maybe it was Lily’s ordinary, humble demeanor that gave me a sense of familial warmth.

I rubbed the bridge of my nose, and the last of my irritation toward Lily completely faded.

I sneered, “Coexist peacefully? My mother poured half her life’s effort into Moon-Shadowed Pack’s territory and assets. Alexander’s will was a complete betrayal. If you were in her place, would you just hand over everything you’d fought for your whole life?”

In the werewolf world, power and resource struggles within top packs were often fights to the death.

Lily’s POV:

“But that was Alexander’s choice. Natalie shouldn’t have to bear that burden. What’s more, she’s already endured so much. Inheriting now is what she deserves. She didn’t steal or seize this right. Should she just hand it over?” I kept my voice level.

I knew Penelope and Samuel had their own stance, but my loyalty was to Natalie. I wasn’t going to overthink it.

Besides, Natalie was reasonable. She acted with measure and honor.

If it weren’t for the fact that Penelope and Samuel were still Alexander’s family, Natalie could have retaliated against them much more harshly with Leonardo’s backing.
