Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 108

Nathan spun around to find Sebastian standing right in front of him.

“Since when did you develop this habit of sneaking up behind people, Mr. Blake? What, were you eavesdropping?”

Sebastian’s expression was dark. He was utterly fed up with Nathan.

It had been so long, their collaboration was ongoing, yet Nathan still refused to hand over the Li Algorithm.

He had partnered with him specifically for that algorithm, and now, despite providing technicians and project resources, Nathan was withholding the most crucial part.

Sebastian had even gone to the officials, but their representative, Professor Avery, always found an excuse to put him off.

Sebastian even suspected that Professor Avery was still upset about him going over his head to his father to secure the deal with the officials in the first place.

“Is this how you usually judge people’s intentions, Mr. Cole?”

Lillian set down her wine glass. “Nathan, I’m not in a good mood today. I shouldn’t stay here any longer. I’ve attended the presentation, so I’ll be leaving the reception now.”

“Wait, I’ll go with you,” Nathan said.

Sebastian wanted to say a few words to Lillian, but with Nathan in the way, he couldn't.

He couldn’t say what he needed to in front of Nathan, so he could only watch them leave.

Once outside, Lillian said goodbye to Nathan, and they went to their separate cars.

Emma was completely unused to driving a supercar. Lillian had driven on the way there, but after having a glass of wine with the CEO of Nexora Technologies, she couldn't drive back.

Lillian knew Emma had a driver's license and simply got into the passenger seat.

Emma started the engine, cautiously pressed the accelerator, then slammed on the brakes, looking at Lillian like a startled bird.

Lillian could see she wasn't used to this kind of car. After driving regular sedans, a supercar would indeed feel unfamiliar.

She reassured her, “It’s okay. Just drive it like a normal car, but a little slower.”

“Ms. Mercer, you’re such a good driver,” Emma said. She had been in the passenger seat on the way there and had felt how smoothly Lillian drove.

Emma gently pressed the accelerator again, driving the supercar at the speed of a golf cart. Lillian held back a laugh, her mood improving slightly.

“You'll get used to it if you drive it more often.”

Emma gave a wry smile. “Ms. Mercer, I never knew you had this wild side.”

Lillian leaned her head back, reaching her hand out from the open convertible to feel the evening breeze.

A smile played on her lips, her captivating beauty and radiant smile flickering in the alternating light and shadow of the street lamps. “That's because you never knew the me from before I was twenty.”

Emma seemed intrigued. “What was the Ms. Mercer from before you were twenty like?”

Lillian suddenly glanced at Emma.

What was she like before she was twenty?

Oh god, she had been carefree, unrestrained, a truly free spirit with the courage and creativity to believe she could do anything. It had been so long since she had felt that way.

Lillian’s smile deepened as she thought about her younger self.

She rested her head on her hand, which was still feeling the breeze, and said to Emma, “I’m working hard to find that person again.”
