"No."
That single word sparked a tiny glimmer of hope in Debbie.
But Sebastian barely paused before extinguishing it completely.
"I hate you far more than you could ever imagine."
Debbie was speechless.
Having said his piece, Sebastian turned and strode out of the room.
Debbie screamed after him, "You ungrateful bastard! You ungrateful wolf! I am not a tool for you to show off your filial piety! Sebastian, get back here! Come back!"
Naturally, Sebastian didn't look back. Once in the hallway, he instructed the guards to keep a close eye on the room.
He heard her screaming about him being a bastard, but he couldn't care less.
He was someone who had been born purely to be used as a tool—no one knew that better than Debbie.
It was laughable that she still had the nerve to call herself his mother.
No, she wasn't a mother. She was the tool-maker.
After all, she had only ever treated him as an instrument. He had never seen a mother act the way she did.
Hearing her claim to be his mother made him sick to his stomach.
But none of that mattered anymore.
He had accepted it long ago. Since he was brought into this world to be a tool, he had made peace with it.
If he could accept it, why couldn't she?
Now that it was her turn to be the tool, why did she have so many complaints?
She shouldn't. She, more than anyone, should understand how this worked.
Wasn't this exactly how she treated him while raising him?
Unsurprisingly, Lillian enjoyed having an audience for the mess Martin and Sabrina had made of their lives, so Sebastian was let inside.
Watching the spectacle didn't improve his mood much. He just wanted to be near Lillian.
Ever since leaving Debbie's room, his mind had been flooded with memories of the years when Lillian had loved him.
Only now did he realize that what she had offered him was the very thing he secretly craved most in his life.
An unreserved, pure love without any hidden agendas. It was something so incredibly rare.
And he had thrown it all away.
He had lost his most precious treasure. Now, watching Lillian—whose smiles and frowns had absolutely nothing to do with him anymore, who was still just as stunning and radiant—he wanted nothing more than to slap himself.
How could he have been so blind as to lose a woman like her?
He desperately wanted to win her back. He wanted to tell her he was wrong, that he would trade everything he owned just to have her by his side again, if only she would let him.
