Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 148

Sabrina's plan was to play the benevolent matriarch. Even knowing her relationship with that side of the family was terrible, she insisted on inviting them to the wedding.

Lillian didn't need to be at the Mercer estate to know exactly what they were thinking.

Sabrina would play the good person, and with a little encouragement, her father and brothers would start seeing her company as their own property.

What a perfect match they made.

After her employees received their invitations, they were probably huddled together these past couple of days, secretly discussing how much to give as a wedding gift.

No wonder they all fell silent whenever she walked into the breakroom. They were likely trying to avoid an awkward situation.

After all, out of respect for her, they felt obligated to attend now that they had received invitations.

But what really bothered Lillian was that neither Ethan nor Emma had told her about this.

Leonard probably sensed what Lillian was thinking.

"It's not that Ethan didn't want to tell you," he explained. "He was in the last group to receive an invitation, just this morning."

No need to guess. An invitation arriving this morning—that had to be Brandon's handiwork.

He didn't want her to know ahead of time, playing games with the timing.

Lillian couldn't help but feel a surge of anger.

"It's just a wedding. Do they really need to play these petty mind games with me?"

Looking at Leonard, thinking of his loving parents and harmonious family, and then looking back at her own, Lillian's resolve to sever ties with the Mercer family hardened.

The divorce between Martin and her mother had successfully extracted her mother from the Mercer family, protecting her well.

It was very likely that any trouble in the Mercer family could jeopardize her grandmother's inheritance.

But Lillian didn't care anymore.

It couldn't be helped. A husband and wife could divorce, and she could disown the Mercer family, but her grandmother was at an age where she was irrevocably tied to them.

Fortunately, she had enough money to support her grandmother. If there were losses, so be it.

"In any case, take Victor with you tomorrow," Leonard advised. "With him and Nathan by your side, even if something happens, I won't have to worry."

Lillian nodded. The Mercers were killing two birds with one stone.

Ever since Victor joined her company, many other firms had been trying to poach him. But since he basically lived at the office, they had no way to contact him and couldn't just storm into her company to recruit him.

Now, with him appearing at the wedding, the Mercer family could approach him openly.

Leonard, however, seemed completely unconcerned, telling her to take Victor without hesitation.

In truth, Lillian never worried about other companies poaching Victor. She knew very well that no one could lure him away.

He was an ace who only respected skill. Besides that, he had no other interests.
