Ethan chuckled nervously. "Um... Boss, I really do need to speak with Ms. Mercer. You can't monopolize her time and keep her from running the company, right?"
Company business did need to be handled, but was it really so urgent that this guy had to interrupt them right now?
Would it kill him to wait a minute?
Lillian stifled a laugh, offering Leonard a few soothing words before he finally agreed to head upstairs.
While Lillian generally seemed gentle enough, the absolute softness she reserved solely for Leonard was truly eye-opening.
Once Leonard was out of sight, Ethan spoke up. "Ms. Mercer, you two really shouldn't be so affectionate in public. It hurts single people like me."
"Your workday isn't packed twenty-four seven," Lillian replied. "Nobody is stopping you from finding a girlfriend and being affectionate on your own time."
"I'll pass," Ethan said. "I'm still young, right in the prime of my career. A girlfriend would only slow down my reaction time."
Lillian didn't bother entertaining his nonsense. She had no idea what was wrong with all of them; it was like everyone around her was allergic to romance.
Every single executive at Lillionix seemed to be proudly single, with absolutely zero intention of dating.
She could somewhat understand Celia Bennett. The idea of starting a family or having children was genuinely daunting for her, especially since she was raising her niece.
Now that the child was gradually adjusting to a normal life, Celia didn't have to worry as much.
Lillian had probed before and found that Celia had no plans for romance or marriage, nor had she met anyone who sparked that desire.
So, her entire world consisted of her work and her niece.
And that was enough for her.
