Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 1493

Miles Winthrop left it at that one joke, making no further moves.

For one thing, he didn't want to upset his own family.

After all, his grandmother had warned him time and time again not to step on his older brother's toes.

A short while later, Old Mrs. Winthrop took off her apron and called everyone to the dining room.

Beatrice Winthrop was a phenomenal cook, but given her age, she couldn't do everything in the kitchen herself anymore.

The chefs prepped most of the ingredients, and she simply handled the final steps.

Even so, Lillian always ate with genuine appreciation whenever she tasted the older woman's cooking.

Whether it was the ingredients or the seasoning, the food always carried a faint trace of her own grandmother's recipes.

Every time she visited, Beatrice catered to her tastes, specifically cooking one or two signature dishes that Lillian's grandmother had taught her.

Because of this, Lillian rarely ate out, usually sticking to the catered nutritional meals sent to Halfridge Villas, but she never needed a delivery when she dined at the Winthrop estate. She happily ate whatever was on the table.

It was a massive sign of respect.

Beatrice was always thrilled and insisted Lillian sit right next to her. In the past, Ethan Hayes had been quick enough to snatch the seat on Lillian's other side.

But today, Beatrice deliberately offered her own seat to Tristan Winthrop.

"Tristan, why don't you two sit together? It's the perfect chance to chat about work if anything comes up."

Then, Beatrice glanced at Ethan. "Mr. Hayes, how about we swap seats? You don't know Lillian's preferences as well as I do. I'll sit next to her and serve her."

Ethan blinked. What?

Wasn't this setup a little too obvious?

For once, Ethan relented and gave up his seat. He wanted to see exactly what Old Mrs. Winthrop was scheming.

She invited Lillian over for dinner entirely too often; he was starting to worry she had an ulterior motive.
